Quote of the Month

In personal intercommunication, we
aim for a response in some form or
other...A good communicator conveys
a message, ideas, information and
intentions, clearly and concisely,
while - as a reciprocal interaction
listening, hearing, and evaluating
the comments, interests and feelings
on the other side. Whether dealing
with child, spouse, neighbor or boss,
our goal is to understand them and to
have them understand us as well. by
George W. Fotis in Improving Personal Effectiveness. p. 58.

Word Power
One role of the Grammarian at a
Toastmasters club is to listen and
give feedback on the usage of the
English language and bring a word
of the day. These are some words
we have used recently:
Channel (verb): guide, direct
Discursive (adj.): digressive, rambling
Irascible (adj.): becoming angry
very easily
Natty (adj.): well dressed, debonair

In the Spotlight
Linda Zechmann, former state
school board member, has been
appointed the new chairman of
the Pierce County Board of Education.
For the first time ever, Wayne
Caffarel was the Contest Chair,
Debbie and Steve Pearce were
the Contest Masters, and Bud
Montero was Chief Judge at the
Georgia Toastmasters Area 74
speech contests held in Valdosta
in March.

All nine contestants in the Table Topics section of

the Area 74 speech contests.

Bud Montero intends to achieve

Distinguished Toastmasters
(DTM) status this year. He is now
working on a project using guidelines in the High Performance
Leadership manual.

Why pay thousands of dollars for

a seminar or class when you can
join a Toastmasters club for a
fraction of the cost and have fun
in the process?
