Three of the four qualifying rounds for the $60,000 3-8 Mile Derby at Bluffs Run are

in the book and the defending champion, Splish Splash, is taking charge.
No greyhound is perfect after the three rounds, but Splish Splash (Black Kennel) leads
the points parade with 40 after picking up her second win to go with a second-place finish
in the opening round.
This victory in the Wednesday, March 25, quarterfinal round was downright
impressive. The 61-pounder, born Sept. 2, 2011 out of Kiowa Mon Manny Patch On
Monday, broke second out of the two box but quickly secured the lead and went on to
dominate the field, winning by 10 and a half lengths in a time of 39.17 seconds. The
margin of victory and time were both the bests of the six quarterfinal races.
Splish Splash, 14-8-3-2, is basically in the championship race with her total of 40
points.
Tied for second with 38 points each are two greyhounds.
Quitetheshindig (Legg), 17-6-1-2, stepped back to a third-place finish after opening
with two wins.
Bocs Tony Romo (Boeckenstedt), 13-7-1-2, won his second straight race after
opening with a third-place finish. Romo pulled away for a six-length win in the days
second race while posting a winning time of 39.18 seconds, just off Splish Splashs effort.
Two points back at 36 is the other second round co-leader Lookin Good (Plum Creek),
11-3-0-3, who saw her three-race win streak (including one win before the Derby started)
snapped with a fourth-place finish. Lookin Good broke seventh and found early trouble.
Theres a drop of five points to the next greyhound. Bocs Gasguzzier (Boeckenstedt),
12-4-2-0, got back into the chase with a powerful homestretch charge, coming from
second in the far turn to win by seven lengths. Bocs Gasguzzier has 31 points.
Three greyhounds have 29 points to round out the top eight.
Cadillac Otis (Black), 16-2-4-0, ran steady to win by a length in his quarterfinal round
and get back into the chase. Otis has had success in Grade A 3-8 mile races.
Bocs Go Getter (Boeckenstedt), 14-3-5-1, came up with her 29 with a second-place
finish. Wicked Game (Hardison), 14-2-4-2, reached 29 with a fourth-place finish.
There was a logjam of seven greyhounds seeking to make the cut for the semifinal
races, each with 22 points. Six of the greyhounds got in because they had second-place
finishes. Energy Drink (Plum Creek) had only a third-place as a best finish and was
eliminated.
The 24 greyhounds return for the Saturday, March 28, semifinals, after which the field
will be cut to the championship eight for the final on Saturday, April 4.
