Merits

Concentration

Advantageous
in case of many RMG
to enhance productivity
with increasing No. of RMG
operation

to minimize No. of RMG operation

to minimize RMG moving time
RMG efficiency improvement
Advantageous in case of lots of
vessels and external trucks

productivity decline in case of

No. of RMG operation
Demerits too much RMG moving time
yard interference in case of
many vessels and external trucks
Remark

very efficient for many RMG

operation with low productivity

10 / 17

low RMG productivity makes

QC productivity low
in case that many RMG can
be operated, not efficient

very efficient for few RMG

operation with high productivity

Tactics of Yard Allocation

3-1. Basis of Yard Allocation
Weight class
Purpose : to stack export containers with similar weight on a bay
Effect : rehandling / reshuffling minimized when loading on board
Detail : stacking factor and section factor
Composition : Class1(0~12ton), 2(12.1~18ton), 3(18.1~) , etc

11 / 17

Tactics of Yard Allocation

3-1. Basis of Yard Allocation
Stacking factor
Concept : parameter setting per row to stack specific containers
Candidates : export & T/S, import, restow (shifting), storage
element : container type/size, status (full/empty), weight class,
vessel visit, etc

Section factor
Concept : parameter setting per bay to stack specific containers
Candidates : export & T/S, import, restow (shifting), storage
element : container type/size, status (full/empty), weight class,
vessel visit

Tactics of Yard Allocation

3-1. Basis of Yard Allocation
ex) Stacking factor : weight class, type/size, vessel visit
ex) Section factor : POD, status(full/empty)

Parameters of Yard Allocation

Automated assignment for discharge/load
RMG Coverage Value : high bonus on the bays within the coverage of
RMG with few work orders for discharging containers)
Double Cycle discharge : High bonus on the bays in consideration of
YT progress direction to assign loading containers
RMG idle time : Bonus assignment to RMG in direct proportion to idle time
RMG busy : High penalty assignment to busier RMG
RMG distance : High penalty assignment to more distant RMG
Gate In/Out : High penalty assignment to RMG with has more orders for
external trucks(gate in/out)
Stacking / Section Factor : High penalty assignment to bays which
tacking / section factor can be easier broken
15 / 17

Parameters for Yard Allocation

Automated assignment for discharge/load
RMG Passing : High penalty assignment to bays which has higher stacks
to prevent incident when spreaders passing
RMG Productivity : High penalty assignment to RMG of lower productivity

Yard Stacking
Vertical or Horizontal Stack: empty stack and tier value
Weight Choice: benchmark for allowance of weight discrepancy between
upper and lower container
