10 Best places to see

1
7
If you are on a tour to United States, then the one state where you would spend
most of your vacation days is none other then California. Whether you are a
school going kid, a working professional or have retired from professional life,
travel in California is undoubtedly the preferred trip in the whole of USA.

Of the numerous exotic beautiful tourist spots, I am going to make an attempt

to pick the 10 best spots in the state. The list below is picked for an average
professional whose interests are like that of a common man. If you are
pursuing any special hobby or interest, then the below list may not apply to
you in entirety.

1. San Francisco

San Francisco is a major tourist spot no matter what age you are. The city has
one of the most unique landscapes in the entire world. The city streets are not
flat like a normal road. They are high slopes; driving on this streets could be
quiet a challenge. The most crookest street, probably in the universe, lies in
the city. Apart from this the 130 year old cable car ride, the former island
prison Alcatraz and above all the world famous Golden Gate Bridge are a must
see for any tourist. But if you travel from San Francisco to these other great
places you'll have a lot more excitement on your travel.

2. Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a major commercial city of the state. If you like meeting people
of different cultures, try out diverse culinary or anything similar, spend time in
this big city on the west coast. The city is a shopper’s paradise and has one of
the richest nightlife in the US.

3. Disneyland & Universal Studios

If you are with kids or you yourself like amusement parks, Disneyland and
Universal Studios are the best locations in the state. In near vicinity to
downtown LA (both are in near opposite directions from downtown), each of
these parks will

1
7
Take at least one day each. At the Universal Studios, take a peek at the large
studios where some of the most popular Hollywood films are shot. Who know
you may see a big star outside one of the many sets in the studios.

4. Napa County

Napa County also referred as Napa Valley has one of the finest wineries in
North America. It is about 80 kilometer from San Francisco. Many of the 250
wineries offer wine tasting tours. This is a must spot for all you wine lovers.

5. Santa Monica

If you are looking for a walk on a palm lined beach in California, don’t miss
Santa Monica. About 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica
has the finest beaches of California. If you are lucky, you may catch a yester
year Hollywood star walking alongside you on the beach.

6. Sacramento

If you are into art galleries and museums, the capital of California,
Sacramento is a must visit destination. It has more then 30 museums and art
galleries. So if you travel Sacramento CA, you can get glimpse of the
glorious past of California here.

7. Palm Springs

If you opt to relax in a resort, swim in a pool or play golf, then drop anchor at
Palm Springs. Go horse riding, hiking, watch polo, visit art galleries while
you are in Palm Springs. The location is well connected by road and also has
its own international airport.

8. San Diego

San Diego has great amusement parks and one of the biggest zoos in USA -
and there are some great theme park discounts out there. About 4 hours road
ride from Los Angeles, takes you to one of the finest beaches offering great
views of the Pacific Ocean. Areas like Old Town in San Diego were the big
commercial hubs of the nineteenth century. Note that there are so many more
great options for San Diego California vacations that definitely do not fit into
this article's limits.
1
7
9. Hollywood

The undisputed capital of glamour and the unofficial headquarters of filmdom,

Hollywood should be mandatory stop on your travel itinerary. The Chinese
Grumman theatre, the walk of fame on Hollywood Boulevard, the nightlife
around the boulevard should not be missed at any cost. Hollywood transports
you to the land of entertainment.

10. Lake Tahoe

Located at a height of 6000 feet above sea level, Lake Tahoe is one of the
most picturesque spot in this part of the world. Free from the urban pollution,
you can see blue clear skies as you roam around the periphery of the huge
lake. Lake cruises are also available. If you like nature, keep aside at least 2
days for this location.

Kit Carson Lodge on Silver Lake

1
7
Introduction

1
7
Kit Carson Lodge is situated on a high alpine lake surrounded by granite
peaks and tall pines. Located in the California Sierra 45 minutes south of Lake
Tahoe, Carson Lodge is one of those old destination resorts that they do not
build anymore. Wood, stone, water and spectacular scenery but most of all the
quiet!

Kit Carson Lodge is probably the opposite of where you are coming from. It
doesn't have the lights; it doesn't have the crowds. It is quiet and it is beautiful.
You can hear yourself think. At night you can hear a pin drop and the sky is so
big, so many stars. Whether you are hiking up to California premier
wildflowers in the sierra, lounging on our beach, out fishing or gliding across
Silver Lake in one of our canoes, dining in our restaurant, browsing in the art
gallery or store, or just sitting on your deck with a great wine looking up at
that incredible sky, Kit Carson Lodge at Silver Lake will definitely be
different from where you are right now and it may be the perfect place for you.

HISTORY
1
7
Kit Carson Lodge On silver lake

The lodge was established in 1926. Since then it is providing the best of the
vacations for all the guests. Providing with the best food in the restaurant.
With the great service by the skilled staff. The lodge is now owned by Mr.
Bradley R. Pearson. He is running this hill resort since 1986 with the help of
his wife Mrs. Ximena B. Pearson

For over 80 years, Kit Carson Lodge has been providing a superb vacation
experience in the high sierra. Decade after decade the Lodge is timeless,
maintaining its traditional atmosphere in California where change is constant.
Rustic, elegant and a perfect fit in the wilderness - these are the attributes that
we are proudest of. We will often have three or even four generations of one
family at the resort at the same time - a perfect tribute to the role that the lodge
has played in the family traditions for decades.

Kit Carson

1
7
Born in Madison County, Kentucky near the city of Richmond, Carson was
raised in a rural area near Franklin, Missouri, where his family moved in 1811
when he was about one year old.[1] Carson's father, Lindsey Carson, was a
farmer of Scots-Irish descent, who had fought in the Revolutionary War under
General Wade Hampton. There were a total of 15 Carson children: five by
Lindsey Carson's first wife, and ten by Kit's mother, Rebecca Robinson. Kit
was the eleventh child in the family. [2] The Carson family settled on a tract of
land owned by the sons of Daniel Boone, who had purchased the land from the
Spanish prior to the Louisiana Purchase. The Boone and Carson families
became good friends, working, socializing, and intermarrying.

Carson was eight years old when his father was killed by a falling tree while
clearing land. Lindsey Carson's death reduced the Carson family to a desperate
poverty, forcing young Kit to drop out of school to work on the family farm,
as well as engage in hunting. At age 14, Kit was apprenticed to a saddle maker
1
7
(Workman's Saddle shop) in the settlement of Franklin, Missouri. Franklin
was situated at the eastern end of the Santa Fe Trail, which had opened two
years earlier. Many of the clientele at the saddle shop were trappers and
traders, from whom Kit would hear their stirring tales of the Far West. Carson
is reported to have found work in the saddle shop suffocating: he once stated
"the business did not suit me, and I concluded to leave".

At sixteen, Carson secretly signed on with a large merchant caravan heading to

Santa Fe; his job was to tend the horses, mules, and oxen. During the winter of
1826-1827 he stayed with Matthew Kinkead, a trapper and explorer, in Taos,
New Mexico, then known as the capital of the fur trade in the Southwest.
Kinkead had been a friend of Carson's father in Missouri, and he taught
Carson the skills of a trapper. Carson also began learning the necessary
languages and became fluent in Spanish, Navajo, Apache, Cheyenne,
Arapaho, Paiute, Shoshone, and Ute.

Hiking and Wildflowers in the Silver Lake / Carson Pass
Area

This is one of the premier wildflower areas of California and one of the best
hiking areas for short, spectacular hikes. Because our base elevations and trail
heads are so high in the Carson Pass area, hikes quickly take you up to high lakes
in alpine terrain that might take overnight backpack trips elsewhere. A wide
variety of terrain is available and many of our guests take different hikes every
day for several weeks without traveling more than 10 miles from the resort to a
trailhead. Because many of these hikes are gentle and short, they are particularly
appealing to older guests and families with young children.

1
Like Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peeks, who have been coming to Silver Lake area for 7
more than 30 years, you will be able to hike and explore the area, taking photos
Kit Carson Lodge also rents fishing boats and our general
store is well stocked with bait and fishing tackle.

The Beach and the Boats

1
7
Silver Lake is 1.5-miles long and .75-miles wide and has a shoreline noted for
sheer granite walls, small coves and interesting islands. Whether you enjoy this
scenic lake from our sandy swimming beach or from a canoe, kayak, rowboat or
small motor boat, the lake is a must on everyone's agenda. Bring your swimsuit,
a great book, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen.
Kit Carson Lodge offers boat rentals. Motor boats, canoes and kayaks may be
rented at the lodge office between 8:30 am and dusk. Pack a lunch and paddle
or motor over to Treasure Island to enjoy the stillness and natural beauty of the
largest island at the southern side of the lake. Or perhaps enjoy nature's
landscape by boating around the 5 miles of scenic lakeshore. Silver Lake is
stocked routinely to provide a hopeful "fisherperson" opportunity to catch
rainbow and native German Brown trout.

The Kayaks in lodge are shorter and wider than traditional kayaks, making
them much more stable. Experience the grace and speed of a kayak as you
tour our lake's edge. You sit low in the kayak and feel much closer to the
