Thole who defire to attain to he Perfettion of this Celeftial Study, ought ) ought firft of all to acquaint themflves well and perfeétly in the true Grounds and Rudiments thereof. To which End it is firft to be underftood, that the Circle of the Zodiack is divided in- to twelve equal Parts, called Sigus ; and the Reafon they are called fo, becaufe they fignify to Mankind the moft remarkable Alterations of the Air and the other Elements Thefe Signs are again divided isto thirty equal Parts, called Degrees, into 60 Parts, called Minutes, and every Minute into do Se- conds, &c. So that in the Compafs of the Zodiack is contained 12 Signs, or 360 Degrees, 21600 Minutes, or 1296000 Seconds. The Names and Characters are defcribed as followeth, which are oppofite to each other in the Heavens. Aries F Livao& Taurus © Scorpio om Genziti TL Sagitary 2 *> Cancer Capricors: VS fea Aquay x Virgo 1 Pifees : | In thefe twelve Signs arc continually: moving in the Heavens, feven Planets, which by Reafon of their difierenr Mo- tion from that of the eighth Sphere, in} — ae which which the fixed Stars move, are called wandring Stars. ‘Their Names and Cha- racters are as followeth, with their Na- tures and Qualifications. h Saturn, cold and dry, melancholy and evil, u Fupiter, hot and moift, temperate and good. é Mars, hot and dry, cholerick and evil, ® Sol, hot and dry, cholerick. 9 Penus, cold and moift, phlegmatick, fortunate, % Mercury, convertible, in Nature mutable, > Moov, cold and moift, phlegma- tick. The Names, Charaéters, and Na- tures of the five Afpetts, Dra- gows Head and Tail, with Part of Fortune. 3 Conjunttion | & Oppofition * Sextile ® Part of Fortune © Square & Dragon’s Head A Trine @ Dragon’s Tail. & The Dragon's Head is accounted a Fortune, and doth increafe the Good of Ba. fostunate C4) fortunate Planets, and abate the Force of evil ones. 3 Dragon's Tail is reckoned an Infor- tune, and doth increafe the Evil of bad Planets, and abateth the Good of the fortunate Stars, @® The Part of Fortune is of the Na- ture of the Dragon’s Head, being of a propitious Signification, in what Houfe doever it is placed, unlefs impeded by the Prefence oi an evil Planet: But none of thefe have any Afpetts. A Conjunétion is improperly called an Afpect, becaufé it is when Planets are in oneSign, Degree, and Minute, having no Diftance from each other , yet if two good Planets be joined almoft in any Sign, “tis accounted very fortunate ; but if two evil ones be joined together, “tis a bad Conjunttion, and fignifies Misfor- tune to the Querent, if the Conjunttion happens in that Part of the Figure that belongs ta the Querent’s Bulinets. A Sextile is when Planets are two whole Signs, or 6o Degrees Dittince ; for you malt know, that 30 Degrees make a Sign, it being the 2th Part of the Zodiack, as Jupiter in the firit De- gree of Aries, and Venus in the firtt De- grec of Gemini, here Fupiter and Vetus are in Sextile, becaufe they are two Signs (5) Signs diftant, which is 6o Degrees. Now this Afpe& is very good, becaufe it is made by the two fortunate Planets. A Quartile, or Square, is when Planets are three Signs, or 90 Degrees diftant, being the 4th Part of the Zodiack, as Satura in the 5th Degree of dries, and Mars in the 4th Degree of Cancer. This Alpett is very evil, and worfe by being both evil Planets. ; A Trine Afpett is when Planets are four Signs, or 120 Degrees diftant, it being one third Part of the Zodiack, as Mars one Degree in Aries, and Jupiter in one Degree of Leo. This is owned by all Aftrologers to be the beft of Af petts, and even one of perfect Friends thip, and much better: than the Sextile. An Oppofition is when Planets are fix Signs, or 180 Degrees diftant, it being half the Circle of the Zodiack, as Mars in Aries, and Venus in Libra, this being the very worft of Afpetts, and therefore accounted a Token of perfect Hatred; fo that in a Queftion between the Que- vent and his Sweetheart, if the Lord of the feventh Houfe is in Oppofition to the Lord of the Afcendant, inftead of Love fiom her, he can expeét nothing but Affronts, Ingratitude, and downright Hatred, unlelS the faid Planets were in 3 mutuah (6) mutual Reception by Sign and Houfe; and even then, if they happen to marry one another, there will be continual Jars, Quarrels, and Contention between them. Again, ifat the Time of Perfons falling fick, or in Queftions of Sicknefs, if Saturn be in oO, or in oppofition tothe Afcen- dant, his Lord, the Moon, -or Lord of the fixth Houle, is an Argument of a very dangerous and lingring SicknelS : The fame obferve of Mars, or any other Planets, if they happen to be Lords of the eighth, fixth, or twelfth Houfes. But if any of thofe Planets be in Sextile or Trine to the Cufp of the Afcendant, or Lord of the Afcendant, or the Moon, there is no Danger, efpecially if the faid Planet be ftrong, and in a good Place of the Figure; and thus you may judge of the good or ili Succefs in any Queftion, concerning any Matter or Thing. what- ever, by the Planets goad or evil Af petts to the refpettive Significators ; on- ly obférve, that Saturn and Mars are evil by Nature, and confequently unfor- tunate: Jupiter and Venus are good by Nature, and therefore fortunate , The San, Mercury, and the Moon are either good or evil, as they are joined to, or. afpefed by good or evil Planets. 4 (7) further Account of the particu lar Divifion, Natures, aud Tri plicities of the Twelve Signs, being in Number four, viz. If a Planet bein his Exaltation, it-de- notes the Querent to be of a high and lofty Spirit, proud and domineering, tak ing more upon him than he is capable to perform, and very often obitinate and ftubborn ; efpecially if afpected by the 0 of Saturn or Mars.
