REMARKS BY MS ANNE WAIGURU, OGW, CABINET
SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF DEVOLUTION AND PLANNING
DURING THE HANDING OVER OF HUMANITARIAN
SUPPORT TO THE NAROK FLASH FLOOD VICTIMS ON
THURSDAY 30TH APRIL 2015.
Ladies and Gentlemen
The recent flash floods experienced in Narok have led to the loss
of lives, loss of property and destroyed livelihoods. I acknowledge
the terrible toll of this natural disaster and take this opportunity to
offer my sympathies and sincere condolences to all those that lost
their loved ones and those rebuilding their lives after this tragic
event.
The National Government is committed to assisting communities
affected by such unforeseen disasters, and consequently, the
Ministry of Devolution and Planning dispatched a team led by the
Principal Secretary Planning and Principal Secretary Devolution to
work with the County Government, to access the situation and
identify areas of intervention to help mitigate losses and work
towards ensuring recovery of livelihoods.
The Ministry has also issued the following food and non-food items
to the County Commissioner for distribution to the affected
families; 800 bags of Maize, 600 bags of Rice, 320 bags of Beans,
40 cartons of vegetable oil, and 20 bales of Nutropap. For the non
food items the Ministry has issued 20 cartons of mosquito nets, 20

cartons of utensils, 20 cartons of sanitary pads, 20 cartons of bar


soap and 50 tents.
In addition, the National Youth Service has deployed 160 service
men and women and equipment to assist in clearing the debris
that were as a result of the flash floods, and excavation of the
building that collapsed with the aim of creating an environment
conducive for the community to rebuild their livelihoods.
The Government will continue to provide assistance in finding
those that have been reported missing as a result of the flash
floods. The National and the County Government will continue to
collaborate and seek other interventions to assist the affected
victims rebuild their lives.
