CHAPTER 1 Dynamics of People and Organizations & Approaches in Understanding

OB
In Game of Thrones, there are a lot, and I may say, countless kingdoms or rather
different organizations with different behavior and actions. First, the Faceless Men
possess the ability to physically change their faces, shapeshifting so that they
appear as an entirely new person. Second, the Night's Watch consists of three
groups: the Rangers, who fight, defend the Wall and patrol the Haunted Forest; the
Builders, who maintain the Wall and the castles; and the Stewards, who support and
feed the members of the Watch. Third, the R'hllor is a popular deity in the continent
of Essos, worshiped extensively in several of the Free Cities. Fourth, the Sons of the
Harpy are an underground resistance movement fighting the rule of Daenerys
Targaryen over Meereen. They conceal their identities wearing masks that look like
harpies.

CHAPTER 1 Dynamics of People and Organizations & Approaches in Understanding
OB
Fifth, the Maesters are a secular organization, not a religious order, though they do
swear sacred oaths to follow the duties and restrictions of their office. Sixth,
the Small Council is a body which advises the King of the Seven Kingdoms and
institutes policy at his command. It is the inner council of the King, essentially
forming the "government cabinet" of the Seven Kingdoms. Members are appointed
to their position by the King; theoretically they can be dismissed at will by the King.
Seventh, the Kingsguard is an elite group of seven knights, supposedly the greatest
and most skilled warriors in all of Westeros. Their duty is to protect the king and the
royal family from harm at times. The Kingsguard swear the most holy of vows to
fulfill their sacred duty and are meant to be the living exemplars of the pinnacle of
knightly virtues. Like the brothers of the Night's Watch, members of the Kingsguard
are sworn for life and are forbidden from owning land, taking a wife, or fathering
children.

CHAPTER 2 Fundamentals of Organizational Behavior: Models of Organizational
Behavior

With conflict looming, Tywin urges Jaime to preserve the Lannisters future. I view it
as a collegial model of organizational behavior since Tywin and Jaime are both
Lannisters, then they have to work together to gain a common benefit. On the other
hand, Drogo is enraged by a threat to Daenerys. With this in mind, their model of
organizational behavior is autocratic. He commands to his people and every
decision will be made only by him.

CHAPTER 3 S1 E5
CHAPTER 3 Communication
Catelyn, having the suspicion that Tywin Lannister was the one who tried to kill her
son, takes her Lannister prisoner to the Eyrie to see her sister and to give the
punishment to her prisoner. Since Catelyn only has suspicions, this created a
miscommunication. Every act of communication influences the organization in some
way. And with Catelyn leaving Winterfell, she left her children unguided which led to
Lannisters easily conquering Winterfell.

sharing valuable advice on roles to play and behaviors to avoid. Jon Snow heads
north to join the brotherhood of the Nights Watch. This is to create a successful

CHAPTER 5 S1 E4
CHAPTER 5 Motivation
Sansa imagines her future as a queen, with Jeoffrey being the King. With this in
mind, she is motivated to do her best as rightful queen. While Arya envisions a far
different future, but still motivated with the swordmanship her father allowing her to

take it. Both of them are motivated and this led them to choose an appropriate
course of action and engage in certain decisions. Although Sansa is always turned
down by Jeoffrey, she is never demotivated. This is because of the motivational
drive which is the strong desire to be queen. She believes that Jeoffrey is her true
love and this affected her approach to living.

for him to prove that he also has what it takes to be a prince. On the other hand, Jon

CHAPTER 7 S1 E7
CHAPTER 7 Leadership
Jon takes his vows at Castle Black, though hes preoccupied by Benjens
disappearance. Jons leadership is consultative since he asks other assigned leaders
for advices before he makes a decision though he is still thinking about whether to
use or ignore the advices. It is considered a successful leadership since his
behavior, skills, and actions are followed by his people and he influences and
supports others to work enthusiastically toward achieving their objectives.

CHAPTER 8 S1 E7
CHAPTER 8 Empowerment and Participation
Since Jon is considered a successful leader, he is able to encourage his people to
get involved, motivates to contribute and to accept their areas of responsibility.
Although it took him a while to do this, because he needed time for his people to
participate. Their weapons are not enough and they lack soldiers so they have to
make sure that the benefit is greater than cost even if they sacrificed 2000 soldiers
just for a distraction for their opponent.

wants to restore the ancient Kingdom of the Iron Islands. He is very committed to
this to the point that he waited for years just to be back to his fathers kingdom and

snitch at the Red Keep. He was able to get alliances and people to his side if ever
there will be a chaos. This resulted to a conflict with her sister, the Queen. But her

satisfactory resolution. This then clarified where Tywin stands.

CHAPTER 12 S1 E10
CHAPTER 12 Informal and Formal Groups
The first season ends with tragic news reaching all corners of the Seven Kingdoms,
which coincides with a shared vision by Bran and Rickon Stark. Meanwhile, Catelyn
presses Jaime about her sons fall. Tyrion heads south following his fathers
surprising decision. Arya tries to escape from Kings Landing. Jon faces a difficult
choice at the Nights Watch and Daenerys suffers a terrible setback. All the people
mentioned are informal leaders in a way that they are able to control other people
just with their influences. These leaders always have network charts that creates
informal groups. Although Catelyn, Tyrion and Jon are formal and informal leaders at
the same time, Arya and Daenerys just cant be formal leaders.

CHAPTER 1 S1 E1
CHAPTER 1 Dynamics of People and Organizations & Approaches in Understanding
OB
The Stark family is the moral heart of Game of Thrones. Their stronghold, Winterfell,
is a stoic place of honour-bound duty. The family guards the decadent southern
kingdoms from the wildlings and worse without complaint. Their motto - "Winter is
coming" - is the sum of Martin's moral universe: horror is always close.

CHAPTER 5 & 8 S1 E2
CHAPTERS 5 & 8 Motivation & Empowerment and Participation
In such a grim world, oathkeeping and mutual obligation are paramount because, in
the North, no other incentives beyond virtue exist to motivate right conduct. After
executing an oathbreaker from the night's watch in the series' first episode, Ned
Stark, the Lord of Winterfell, says to his young son Bran, Martin punishes the Starks
for their medieval virtue: Bran is crippled when he witnesses the Queen in an act of
incest; his sister Sansa is beaten and threatened with rape by the young
psychopath, King Joffrey Lannister; Arya, the youngest daughter, becomes a stonecold killer after her father's death. This could be the foundation for a gritty, but
nevertheless sound, fantasy text - the heroes must of course suffer in some way
before they win the day.

CHAPTER 11
CHAPTER 11 Conflict, Power and Organizational Politics
For every episode, there is always a conflict. With kingdoms trying to conquer other
kingdoms. Most of all, these conflicts are created by roles that destroys trust. Some
tell such lies just to get to a playsafe condition but later on attacks on their leader.
These roles show inconsistencies between what they say and the actions they
make. Then the conflict starts when the other persons self-achievement is
threatened.
