- Simplifying instruction and

waiting for question at the

increases activity time.

- Having students be all on

their own (free-for-all) style
is one alteration that worked
well.
- Having students work on
trapping/fielding the ball
with their hands. Ensuring
that (if they field it correctly
C they are safe; if bobble and
dont they are out.)

Players receive balls and

try to hit other players
below the knees in order to
get them out or sent to the
sin-bin.
- The sin-bin is essentially
6 chairs played on the edge
of the court and numbered
it is also empty at the start
of the game. Once players
are hit and knocked out
they go sit in the sin-bin.
- The first player who is hit
goes and sits in the first
chair labeled 1. As players
are knocked out they enter
the sin-bin at the chair
labeled 1 the player already
in 1 moves to 2 and so
forth.
- Once it all six are filled,
then the person at 6 enters
back into the game.
- Extension up:
- Increase amount of
balls.
- Students in sin-bin must
do an exercise such as a
push-up, sit-up, and
star-jump before sitting
down.
- Extension down:
-

Make balls
larger/softer

Decrease the
amount of chairs in
the sin-bin.

- Transition:
1-2
min

- Students will then put

equipment down once
they hear stop signal (End
of music) and sit where
they are quietly waiting
for teachers instruction
and to move on to next
activity. (quietest students
get to move first)
- Move to other half of the
gym for next activity in
small groups designated
by teacher.
Activity 2 [Ula Maika]:
(5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd grade)

14-15
min

- This activity originates

from the Polynesian
islands such as Hawaii.
- Students will get into
either groups of 2 or 3,
depending on the
number of the students
in the class. Each group
will receive a pair of
bowling pins and each
team member will
receive 1 tennis ball
each. Teams will then
find another pair or
group of three and play
against them, keeping
score. (on score sheet)
- The object of this game is
for students to place their
pins about a foot apart and
about 10 to 15 feet away
from them and try and roll
their ball through the pins.

pins without actually
knocking them over either.
- Extension up:
- Increase the distance
between students and
the pins.
- Decrease the amount of
space between the pins
as well (pose challenge).
- Increase the number that
they need to get for a
score.
- Extension down:
- Increase the size of the
ball for student
(dependent on
grade/skill level)
- Increase the amount of
space between bins.
- Decrease the amount of
points each team
member has to score on.
