From Room 25
For our Assembly we sang the songs Botany Bay and Waltzing Matilda.
We had fun making the video to go with Waltzing Matilda.
We are starting to learn about the early settlement of Australia.
Did you know that Captain Cook landed in Botany Bay in 1770 on his
ship HMS Endeavour?
Waltzing Matilda was written by Banjo Paterson and is Australias most
well known bush ballad.
We all dressed up, some as convicts and some as swagmen.

On Friday 24 April, the year 6 classes and 20 year 5 students attended the Combined Schools ANZAC
Parade and Service. Over 2000 students from schools throughout the region attended the event which
involved marching down York Street followed by a ceremony in
Peace Park to commemorate 100 years of ANZAC.
Congratulations to all students who represented Yakamia. Their
behaviour was outstanding. Also a special mention must go to
Olivia Steel who did a fantastic job reading an ANZAC poem as
the Yakamia representative.

Healthy eating - Tips for Parents
Go shopping with your children and allow them to choose the healthy foods
that they enjoy eating. For example, ask children to choose some of the fruit
and vegetables.
Shop twice a week - fresher fruits, vegetables, breads and meats are more
likely to appeal to the whole family.
Buy in season - seasonal fruits and vegetables taste great, are better quality
and are better value for money.
Select small pieces of fruit - younger children prefer smaller pieces of fruit
as they are easier to handle.
Choose quality - try to avoid bruised fruit or vegetables.
Encourage variety - so that your child does not get bored with their food.

Fotoworks- Tuesday 19 May
Pre-paid envelopes have gone home with all students in Years 1-6. The K-PP students will be having
their photos on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September. Any families wanting a Siblings
portrait will need to collect an envelope from the front office of the school. You will also need to add
your family details to the siblings register and then make sure you present the students to the
photographers between 12.40 and 1.00pm in the school hall. Sibling photos will be the responsibility of
the carer or the eldest sibling.
For all other photos:
Return the envelope to the school on photo day with payment included.
Please ensure the correct money is placed in the envelopes. The photographers, the school office
or canteen cannot give change.
For queries please contact the Fotoworks Office directly on 9244 8211.
All students will be included in the class photo and will be photographed individually for school
archives and administration records. If for custodial reasons or religious reasons your child cannot
appear on class photos please put it in writing and return to the school office.
