TUNING THE BODY with Michelle Hemley


7.30pm-9pm Wednesday 20th May

Learn the latest training principles from around the world and how you can apply these to your athletes and teams:
Principles of effective training the best ways to gain activity specific fitness and plan the season accordingly
Training the body for effective movement the 'Mobility-Stability-Strength' model and how to apply it with the
athletes you coach
Injury Prevention learn how to educate athletes to listen to their own body and recognise when to stop and
seek professional advice, along with how to use the latest tools and apps to assist this process
Principles of effective recovery learn the deeper benefits of recovery and the most effective, easiest to access
and FREE techniques to achieve sound recovery
Practical mobility and massage rollers session
Examples from the athletic world where great performance is achieved through different approaches

SPORTS NUTRITION with Tim Altman


7.30pm-9pm Wednesday 27th May

Tim cuts through the myriad of theories and marketing by focussing on what we are 'built to eat according to recent
advancements in genetic and anthropological research. This creates a very simple and easy to implement approach to
general nutrition for health as well as specific sports nutrition for training and competition.
Tims session will help you create training nutrition programs for athletes that target regulating blood sugar levels
and help to achieve the following outcomes:
Optimise performance and recovery
Increase energy levels, muscle mass and fat loss
Optimise immune function to prevent colds and flus
Reduce fatigue and muscle aches and pains
Tim also guides you to create nutrition protocols for race or competition day that are designed to:
Optimise and maintain energy levels for the duration of competition, including prevention of slumps that can
occur between performances
Optimise recovery and avoid cramps, dehydration, sugar bonking or over-hydration

TUNING THE MIND with Richard Bennett

Rich presents the fundamentals of performance psychology in simple, practical ways to enable you to:
Lead create the mastery environment and guide goal achievement
Observe understand the inner workings of an athletes mind and the team mind
Communicate deliver meaningful advice that is timely and tangible
Respond support through the highs and lows, know how and when to refer for specialist support
Achieve balance and enrichment through your valuable role in athlete / team development

Michelle Hemley Exercise Professional
Michelle Hemley's passion is inspiring and educating as many people as possible to
achieve their sporting dreams. She is the Founder / Managing Director of Hemley's Health, Fitness, Sport Development and it is her dream to create a thriving company
that manages numerous sports coaching, development and education initiatives
that encourage more active lifestyles.
Michelle has had a diverse professional career over the past 15 years in physical
education, sports coaching, health promotion, exercise physiology and sport
participation strategy for the Federal Government. Michelle holds a Bachelor of
Exercise and Health Science, Graduate Diplomas in Physical Education and Sports
Nutrition, a Masters in Exercise Physiology and she has successfully worked as a
coach and exercise professional with hundreds of individuals of all ages.
Practising what she preaches, Michelle is an accomplished athlete having completed nine Ironman Triathlons, five
marathons, a 20km Rottnest Channel Swim crossing and numerous other endurance sports challenges. Top results
include a podium finish at the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon (age group), finishing as the 3rd placed female at both the
Senshu International Marathon in Japan and Great Ocean Road Marathon in Victoria, many age-group titles in
Triathlon over a range of distances and State Champion titles in open water swimming and surf lifesaving.

Tim Altman Naturopath/Nutritionist
Tim Altman is a qualified Naturopath and has been providing Naturopathic and
Nutrition Services from clinics in Torquay, South Melbourne and South Yarra for
many years.
Tim has a very strong affinity with nutrition and treating the whole body as an
integrated system rather than viewing systems as separate entities. The intention is
to treat the root cause of the illness rather than simply focussing on symptoms.
An experienced kayak competitor and paddling coach, Tim works with athletes to
create a heightened level of energy, resistance to illness, concentration, strong
immune systems, proper fuelling and focussed mental clarity.

Richard Bennett Performance Psychologist
Rich's passion is to enlighten the mind so that people achieve best performance,
health and happiness.
Rich has 15+ years experience enabling hundreds of athletes and teams to achieve
their goals, from young performers to world champions. Rich was the first
psychologist to work globally on the World Surf League, authored the seminal book
The Surfer's Mind" and was Head of Psychology for our Australian Paralympic Team
in the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Paralympic Games. Rich has also held several
senior positions within Australian Summer and Winter Olympic Teams,
Commonwealth Games Teams and Institutes of Sport.
Rich is based in Jan Juc and consults locally and globally in a broad range of
performance settings, including Olympic/Paralympic and professional sports,
extreme/adventure pursuits, the performing arts, education, healthcare, career and
corporate settings. Rich also has extensive experience in general practice and
indigenous mental health, and consults at headspace Geelong and Karuna Maya
Medicine Tree in Jan Juc.
