Vasakasajja Nayika -This theme depicts a Nayika longing for a union with her
lover, waiting impatiently for his return from a battle or a long journey. She
prepares for the arrival of her beloved, by decorating herself and her
surroundings tastefully. She is dolled up in the choicest of ornaments and
clothes. She seeks to attract her weary lover to the bedroom whose air is
permeated with titillating perfumery and setting adorned with colourful flowers
& garlands, all chosen to reflect the mood. She is the nayika of excitement
and passion,of longing and hope.
Svadhinabhartruka Nayika This theme relates to a Nayika who has
subjugated her beloved with her love and charm. Her radiant beauty captivates
him. Her lover is ever at her side and she is the object of every other nayikas
jealousy. He is depicted as a man enamoured by her beauty, as he applies
aromatic paste on her feet and vermillion on her forehead. This nayika is filled
with the conviction of one who holds unconditional power over her Lord.

Kalahantarita Nayika This Nayika is a lover separated from her beloved, due
to a silly quarrel that occurs out of her meaningless jealousy. As the hero tries
to woo her, she refuses to accept his explanations and turns him away.
However, after the man leaves her bed chamber in despair, she begins to
repent. Her heart is thus pained by the separation caused by her folly. She is
accusing him of infidelity. She is the nayika who is restless, acerbic, sorrowful
and insecure.
Vipralabdha Nayika This nayika shares the similarity with the Khandita
Nayika in that her beloved also cheats on her. She is in deep agony while
waiting for him in her chamber the whole night. In despair she finally removes
her clothes, throws away her ornaments and rubs off her make-up. Though
outsmarted, yet pines for her Lord. She is disappointed and disillusioned. She
is gentle and tearful, given to sighing and swooning. She is the nayika who is
dissapointed that her lover has not turned up at the tryst as he promised

The nayikas are not literary conceptualizations but they draw from a vast
repertoire of human emotions, psychology, physicality, sexuality and the
warmth of human flesh and blood. The naiyikas are isolations and
representations of all shades and moods of a woman.
