Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
Sarawak is abundantly rich in its natural surroundings. It is also a
state full of various cultures, traditions, and customs. One of the bestknown festivals is Kaul Festival.
Kaul Festival is a traditional carnival. It is celebrated by the
Melanau community living on the beaches in Mukah. It is held in April
every year. Through the festival, the Melanaus offer their thanks to the
spirits for keeping them safe through the monsoon season. They also ask
for a good bounty on their fishing trips.
Among the events in Kaul Festival, the Semah ceremony is carried
out near the mouths of the rivers. In this event, boats and sampans are
colourfully decorated. One of the highlights of the festival is the tibou
game. It is a traditional giant swing, about 20-foot high, from which
youths would dive down to catch a swinging rope.
Other than that, there are beach games, displays of Melanau
martial arts, the traditional Melanau dance and a large feast. During the
feast, lots of delicious Melanau food is served.
