Introduction
The constraints of a board game restrict the opportunities for extensive narrative in the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game
(PACG). Paizos Pathfinder Tales line provides a handy glossary at the back of the novels, so writers dont have to explain
terminology that interferes with the story theyre constructing. This guide attempts to do the same thing for the Blessing Deck
in PACG. It uses information available on PathfinderWiki (http://pathfinderwiki.com). This guide is not a replacement for the
wiki, nor does it reproduce the complete text of Paizos official source books; rather its designed to provide a little bit of
information to enhance players appreciation of what the Blessing cards represent.
Please check the PathfinderWiki if you want citations of source material. This is a fan project after all, and holding me to the
standards of a full commercial product or an academic research paper isnt reasonable. I hope you enjoy this guide, along with
your time spent playing the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.

Earthfall and the Starstone

Several of Golarions deities achieved divinity through a ritual known as the Test of the Starstone. The Starstone is a magical
gem formed from the remains of a meteorite that crashed into the world of Golarion in an event known as Earthfall. The impact
created a huge cloud of ash and dust that blotted out the sun for a thousand years, a period known as the Age of Darkness. The
world has since recovered from the events of Earthfall, but many civilizations were cast down, and new ones arose because of
Earthfall.
The time before Earthfall is called the Age of Legend. A race of powerful, sea-dwelling creatures known as aboleth raised the
humans of Azlant from barbarism and taught them magic. Humanity thrived under the aboleths tutelage, and grew to be proud
and powerful. Many races, including giants, were controlled by the aboleth through their human vassals. Eventually, humanitys
abilities threatened to eclipse those of the aboleth, and the aboleth decided to end humanity by summoning a massive planetkilling meteor. The plan would have worked were it not for the intervention of the goddess Acavna. She pulled one of
Golarions moons into the meteors path. The moon shattered, killing Acavna in the process, but it slowed the meteor enough
to give the intelligent races of Golarion a chance to survive. The resulting cataclysm destroyed the civilizations of Azlant and the
aboleth. Acavnas divine essence merged with the aboleths magic and the remains of the meteor to form a potent gem known
as the Starstone.
When the Starstone was rediscovered, a powerful mage named Aroden used his magic to prevent the aboleths weapon from
ever being misused again, and the gods rewarded Aroden by elevating him to divinity. Aroden then founded the city of
Absalom, placing the Starstone at its heart, and devised an ever-changing series of tests for anyone seeking to use the Starstone
to achieve divinity. To date, only three mortals have ever passed the test: Norgorber, Cayden Cailean, and Iomedae.

Abadar
Titles: God of Walls and Ditches, The Gold-Fisted, Judge of the Gods, Master of the First Vault,
God of the First Vault
Portfolio: Cities, Wealth, Merchants, Law
Home: Aktun District, Axis
Abadar seeks to expand civilization and order amongst the people of Golarion. His followers are
expected to obey all meaningful laws, but not those which are contradictory, unenforceable, or
ridiculous. While favoring governance, Abadar discourages dependence on the government or
religious institutions, and instead prefers individuals to achieve their goals through discipline,
good judgment, and respect for sensible laws.
Abadar protects the First Vault on the lawful plane of Axis. The vault is said to contain perfect
versions of everything ever created by civilized peoples.

Achaekek
Titles: The Mantis God, He Who Walks in Blood
Portfolio: Blood, Death, Assassination
Home: 1st circle of Hell
Achaekek was the first entity created by the gods to carry out their will, specifically targeting all mortals who hope to usurp the
power of the gods and achieve divinity, although divine beings are immune to Achaekek since they didnt wish to become
targets themselves. No god has admitted to ordering Achaekek to murder someone, and its believed he finds his targets based
on instinct or instructions from an undiscovered source.
The Red Mantis Assassins pattern themselves after Achaekek, and never target a rightful monarch, viewing them as anointed
agents of the gods.

Asmodeus
Titles: The Archfiend, Dark Prince, The First, God-Fiend, Lord of Darkness,
Lord of Hell, Lord of the Pit, Master of Witches, Prince of Darkness,
Prince of Devils, Prince of Hell, Prince of Law, Ruler of Hell
Portfolio: Tyranny, Slavery, Pride, Contracts
Home: The Catafalque, Nessus, Hell
Asmodeus believes the strong should govern the weak, and be accorded the
respect their position deserves from their lessers (although he is never fooled by
flattery, instead viewing it as a negotiation tool and something he is owed
anyway.) Asmodeus loves negotiations and contracts, especially those that grant a
hidden advantage to one party over another. He forged the contract of creation
that all the gods accepted. Its rumored the contract contains a secret that will
one day enable Asmodeus to rise to power above all deities.
Asmodeus is the only one among Hells nine rulers who can claim full divinity. He was
one of the original gods, having received his name from his brother Ihys, who uttered
the first sound and created speech. Ihys, Asmodeus, and the lesser gods created the
universe and the laws that bind it. Ihys created mortals, but it was his gift of free will
that drove a rift between him and Asmodeus, and sparked the eternal conflict between
Law and Chaos. The gods warred amongst each other, until Asmodeus offered his
hand in reconciliation, and performed the first act of treachery by murdering Ihys with
a great spear. As a monument to his brother, Asmodeus allowed Ihyss gift of free will
to stand. He then created Hell as a testament to his belief in the rule of absolute,
merciless order.
Cheliax and its holdings are devoted followers of Asmodeus. Cheliax turned to
worshipping Asmodeus after their original patron deity Aroden died, and Cheliax
descended into civil war (Arodens death is also believed to have caused the creation of
the perpetual hurricane known as the Eye of Abendego.) House Thrune arose from the
chaos as victors courtesy of infernal pacts they made to secure power. The other
houses followed suit and made similar contracts out of avarice, fear, desperation, or
simply the need to keep up appearances with the new order. Diabolism is part of daily
life in Cheliax, and its rulers deeply believe it will enable them to expand their power
over the Inner Sea regions. Privately, some observers remark that layers of infernal
contracts and years of servitude are holding Cheliax back.

Besmara
Titles: The Pirate Queen, The Black Lady, The Sea Banshee, Sailors Doom
Portfolio: Piracy, Strife, Sea Monsters
Home: Her ship, Seawraith
Besmara is worshipped by the Shackles pirates, who tend to only call on her
in times of extreme danger or on their death beds. She is believed to sail the
waterways of the Great Beyond - especially the chaotic Maelstrom - and
conducts raids on Hell, Elysium, Axis, and Heaven.

Calistria
Titles: The Savored Sting, The Lady in the Room, The Unquenchable Fire
Portfolio: Trickery, Lust, Revenge
Home: Calistrias Domain, Elysium
Calistria is vengeful, vindictive, and above all, patient, when shes been wronged
by someone. She takes her time to achieve the most favorable position to mete out
retribution. Calistria holds wasps in high regard since they continue living after
harming their enemies, and sometimes she uses swarms of wasps to communicate
her displeasure.
Calistrias otherworldly beauty is well-known, and many holy texts detail her trysts
with various deities. One tale claims Cayden Cailean took the Test of the Starstone
after Calistria rebuffed his advances because of his mortality.
Calistria is held in high regard by elves because they can identify with her moods and attitudes.

Cayden Cailean
Titles: The Accidental God, The Drunken God, The Drunken Hero,
The Lucky Drunk
Portfolio: Freedom, Ale, Wine, Bravery
Home: Elysium
Cayden Cailean never intended to become a god. A successful sellsword, freedom
fighter, and lover of strong drink, Cayden Cailean only took the Test of the Starstone
after a drunken friend challenged him to do so. No one knows what happened during
the test, but three days later Cayden Cailean emerged as a deity.
Cayden Cailean behaves the same way he did as a mortal. He holds freedom and
adventure in high regard, accepts challenges when they are issued although he sees
no shame in retreating when necessary, opposes tyranny and oppression, and always
makes time for strong drink and celebration. Many of his adherents feel the same way.

Desna
Titles: The Song of the Spheres, The Great Dream, Starsong,
The Tender of Dreams, Lady Luck, Resplendent Goddess of Fortune,
Goddess of the North Star, Queen of the North Star, Mother Moon
Portfolio: Dreams, Stars, Travelers, Luck
Home: The palace Sevenfold Cynosure, in the star Cynosure
Desna is an ancient goddess of freedom and luck. She received the portfolio of travel
after her mentor, Curchanus, was trapped by Lamashtu and stripped of the domain of
beasts. Curchanus died from Lamashtus brutal assault, so now Desna travels the
planes fighting oppression and Lamashtu wherever she encounters them. Desna is
often described as a beautiful elven woman with butterfly wings, a coy but distant
smile, and clothed in diaphanous gowns.

Erastil
Titles: Old Deadeye, Stag God, Estig the Hunter
Portfolio: Farming, Hunting, Trade, Family
Home: Heaven, Erastils Domain
Erastil was worshipped in the early days when mankind first attempted to harness
the wilderness and master nature. Its said that Erastil crafted the first bow and
gifted it to humans. Erastil encourages his followers to embrace simple, traditional
ways of life, which sometimes puts him at odds with Abadar. Those who please
Erastil are often rewarded with increased yields from farm and field, while those
he disfavors suffer ruined crops and poor hunting.

Geryon
Titles: The Serpent, Source of Lies, Wild Beast, Lord of Filth
Portfolio: Forbidden Lore, Heresy, Snakes
Home: Drowned Empire, Stygia, Hell
The archdevil Geryon is the master of Stygia, Hells fifth layer.

Gorum
Titles: Our Lord in Iron
Portfolio: Strength, Battle, Weapons
Home: Elysium
Gorums followers claim he was formed from battle itself, a suit of iron standing
alone amongst the remains of a battlefield. His genesis is generally considered to
be the result of conflicts that erupted between orcs and humans during the Age of
Darkness. Being the divine embodiment of martial prowess and glory on the
battlefield, its believed that if conflicts like those that birthed him ever cease,
Gorum will perish as the result of their absence.
Gorums followers preach faith in strength and power, over spirituality and intellect. They are often great warriors. Gorums
strongest following is among mercenaries, barbarians, and half-orcs (who often believe he is one of them, choosing to hide his
appearance from human worshippers who would be unable to accept Gorums true nature.)

Gozreh
Titles: The Wind and the Waves, Iozom the Sky Father, Hyjarth & Tourithia
Portfolio: Nature, Weather, The sea
Home: Material Plane
Gozreh is a dual deity a god of storm and sky and a goddess of the wave and surf. Both beings
are fickle like the winds fury and the oceans wrath. Gozreh appears as a colossal humanoid
whose lower body trails away into a mass of roiling elemental matter. Her female avatar is
often depicted as a young woman with wild green hair, while his male avatar is portrayed as a
weathered old man with a long white beard. Often the two forms are shown reaching up from
the sea and down from the heavens to touch one another in mid-air.

Hshurha
Titles: The Duchess of All Winds, The Unseen Whirlwind, The Storm Tyrant
Portfolio: Air, Last breaths, Windstorms
Home: Verglas Precessional, Plane of Air
Hshurha is one of four powerful beings collectively known as the Elemental Lords. She detests all solid, visible creatures.

Iomedae
Titles: The Inheritor, Light of the Sword, Lady of Valor
Portfolio: Valor, Rulership, Justice, Honor
Home: Iomedaes Domain, Heaven
Iomedae was a mortal who led the Knights of Ozem in the Shining Crusade against the
forces of the Whispering Tyrant. She was the last mortal to pass the Test of the Starstone,
and became a herald of Aroden. She harbors a grudge against the goddess Pharasma for
keeping the impending demise of Aroden a secret. Iomedae manifests as a sword-mistress
in full-plate mail with a heraldic shield that blinds evil beings and causes malevolent forces
to falter.
Worshippers of Iomedae are vigilant in hunting out evil, and many participated in the
Mendevian Crusades to close the Worldwound and finish the task Aroden started with his
defeat of the demon lord Deskari. Cleanliness and an honorable demeanor are important to
her followers. Many paladins serve Iomedae, along with a number of halflings since most of
Golarions halflings are enslaved or treated unjustly.

Irori
Titles: Master of Masters, Iro-Shu and the Enlightened One, The Perfect Human,
The Perfect Man
Portfolio: History, Knowledge, Self-perfection
Home: Serene Circle, Axis
Iroris followers claim he was once a mortal who achieved divinity of his own volition
through absolute physical and mental perfection. He is worshipped by those who seek
enlightenment and self-improvement.

Kelizandri
Titles: Brackish Emperor
Portfolio: Drowning, Water, Waves
Home: Kelizandrika, Plane of Water
Kelizandri is one of four powerful beings collectively known as the Elemental Lords. He is said to be the semi-divine offspring
of a brine dragon and a minor godling, and often appears as an immense dragon-like creature made of earth, metal, and crystal.
Kelizandri is credited with destroying the last marid during the Age of Darkness, and lives in the ruins of an ancient marid city
made of coral that he dragged into the depths of Kelizandrika.

Lamashtu
Titles: The Demon Queen, Mother of Monsters, Demon Mother, Mother of Beasts,
Mother of Demons, Mother of Perversion, Mistress of Insanity, Grandmother Nightmare
Portfolio: Madness, Monsters, Nightmares
Home: Kurnugia, the Abyss
Lamashtu was a demon lord who attained divinity by stealing it from Curchanus. She lured
the god into her territory, beset him with demons, and wrested the godly domain of beasts
from him, earning the eternal enmity of his protg Desna.
In past ages, Lamashtu was allied with the demon lord Pazuzu, but he was enraged by the
shift in power when Lamashtu seized the divine spark, and Pazuzu attacked her when she
returned from the battle with Curchanus. Lamashtu was wounded terribly, and only her
new-found divinity enabled her to survive. Pazuzu and Lamashtu are now the bitterest of
enemies.
Lamashtu learned how to create demons when torturing a Horseman of the Apocalypse, whom she captured during her wars
with Abaddon. She used her own body to gestate the demons. Many monstrous humanoid races such as gnolls, harpies, and
medusas claim Lamashtu was their first progenitor and creator. Although often depicted with a jackals head, her worshippers
select a head appropriate to their species, be it jackal, hawk, snake, or something else.

Milani
Titles: The Everbloom
Portfolio: Hope, Devotion, Uprisings
Home: Arodens Domain, Axis / Milanis realm in Elysium
Milani is a minor goddess and the patron of those who fight against oppression and unjust
rule. The death of her patron, Aroden, gave Milani focus and attracted many followers.
Those devoted to Milani found the courage to organize rebellions against infernal
takeover from the Cheliaxian Empire, helping many outlying territories break free of
Chelish control. Asmodeus and Zon-Kuthon are Milanis arch-enemies, though she uses
her lowly status among the good-aligned deities to avoid the attention of evil deities,
often employing mortals to confound their wicked schemes and deflect attention from
herself.

Nethys
Titles: The All-Seeing Eye
Portfolio: Magic
Home: Realm of Nethys, Maelstrom
Ancient Osiriani texts tell of a king whose mastery of magic transformed him into a god
by allowing him to see all that transpired on every plane of existence. The knowledge
drove him irreparably mad.
Nethys is worshipped by wizards, clerics, and all those with an interest in magic and its
use and advancement. Those unable to do or use magic are held as lesser by the faith,
while creatures with magical abilities or properties are held as sacred.
Nethys remains neutral in most of his affairs, but he allies with those requiring the use of magic regardless of benevolent or
nefarious intent. While his madness makes it hard to act on long-term plans, Nethys can focus when his omnipresent knowledge
reveals he is being betrayed or threatened. Nethys takes a special interest in Irori since the both of them are the only mortals to
achieve divinity without the use of the Starstone.

Norgorber
Titles: Reaper of Reputation, Father Skinsaw, The Gray Master, Blackfingers,
King of Thieves
Portfolio: Greed, Secrets, Poison, Murder
Home: Norgorbers realm, Axis
Norgorber is an enigma to his followers, and nothing is known about his life before his
ascension. Some of his worshippers believe that Norgorber would be undone if his
origins were ever revealed. Norgorbers followers come from all walks of life, and they
are all called Sons and Daughters of the Mask. Many choose only one of his aspects to
worship. Spies and the politically-minded pray to the Reaper of Reputations. Thieves
revere the Gray Master, the King of Thieves. Assassins, alchemists, and herbalists
follow Blackfingers. Events transpiring in Magnimar led to Norgorbers acquisition of
the portfolio of greed, and the new title of Father Skinsaw. Regardless of which aspect
they select, followers of Norgorber are considered cultists within the Inner Sea region
and must often hold their services in secret.

Pharasma
Titles: Lady of Graves, Mother of Souls
Portfolio: Fate, Death, Prophecy, Rebirth
Home: Boneyard
Pharasmas realm, the Boneyard, touches all planes via a spiral staircase connected to her
realm. She acts as the judge of the dead, determining which of the Outer Planes a soul will
spend eternity on. Her work is vital, because her efforts minimize the amount of fighting
between extraplanar beings over the souls of mortals. Pharasma detests the undead or any
magic which enables a mortal to avoid their final judgment. She will often dispatch her
servants, mortals or angels in her employ, to put an end to these abominations.
Arodens death, the first of the ascended gods, was not prophesied, and once he died, most of the other prophecies in the world
went bad as well. Many of Pharasmas priests have lost faith or gone mad as a result, but those that remain have observed that
while Pharasmas hold over prophecy is becoming less important, her domain over death, birth, and fate are growing stronger.
Some legends say that Pharasma knew the death of Aroden was approaching, but chose not to tell her followers.

Sarenrae
Titles: The Dawnflower, The Everlight, The Healing Light, The Healing Flame
Portfolio: Sun, Redemption, Honesty, Healing
Home: Sarenraes Realm, Nirvana
Sarenrae was created by Ihys, one of the two primordial deities in the time before time, and
comforted him when his brother Asmodeus castigated him for giving mortals free will. Sarenrae
was Ihyss right hand in the first war of the gods when the gods of Chaos (lead by Ihys) fought
against the gods of Law (led by Asmodeus.) Sarenraes rage and resolution in the face of
Asmodeuss betrayal of Ihys is what convinced Asmodeus that his cause was hopeless, leading him
to abandon the war and retreat to Hell.
Sarenrae counts non-evil gods as companions, and communicates with evil deities in the hopes of
converting them. Sarenraes priests are altruistic, preaching redemption to all, but are quick to
put those beyond redemption to the sword without hesitation. The scimitar is a favored weapon
and its use is held in high regard.

Shelyn
Titles: The Eternal Rose, The Lady of Chrysanthemums, Syriss
Portfolio: Beauty, Art, Love, Music
Home: Shelyns Domain, Nirvana
Shelyn shared her portfolio with her half-brother Dou-Bral, until they argued and
Dou-Bral abandoned Golarion for the dark places between the planes. When he
returned, Dou-Bral had become a god of mutilation, misery, and torture with the
new name of Zon-Kuthon. Zon-Kuthon committed acts of violence against Shelyn
and their divine father, and for that, he was banished to the Plane of Shadow to
reside for as long as the sun hung in the sky. The Age of Darkness provided a
loophole for Zon-Kuthon to escape, and in a subsequent confrontation, Shelyn
wrested Zon-Kuthons golden glaive away from him, paving the way for a policy
of avoidance between the two.
All who see Shelyn view her for what they envision as the most perfect beauty, meaning she appears different to everyone.
Depictions of Shelyn, regardless of race or ethnicity, show her as a young woman barely out of her youth with blue or silver
eyes. Shelyn doesnt use her beauty as a weapon and punishes that sort of behavior in her followers. Lesser beauty doesnt
inspire feelings of jealousy in her, nor does she feel envy when a lesser beauty receives attention instead of her. Shelyn
encourages the growth and appreciation of beauty, regardless of its source or admirers.

Sivanah
Titles: Goddess of Illusions, The Seventh Veil
Portfolio: Illusions, Reflections, Mystery, Veils
Home: Sivanahs Realm, Maelstrom
Sivanah is the goddess of illusion magic. Her true form is disguised behind her
seven veils, each of which is tied to a specific race (human, elf, halfling, gnome,
aranea, and naga), although she is believed to be none of these. Sivanah can appear
as any race by wearing the appropriate veil, and communicates with her faithful
through mirrors, reflections in water, and sometimes their own shadows.

Torag
Titles: Father of Creation, Father of Dwarvenkind
Portfolio: Forge, Protection, Strategy
Home: Heaven, Torags Domain
Dwarves believe Torag created the world on his great forge, hammering it into
shape. As rock tumbled, and sparks flew, the dwarves were born, made of stone
with bellies full of fire. Torig values honor, planning, and well-made steel. His
churches can be found in all dwarven lands and many human lands, particularly the
harsh northern lands of the Ulfen.
