Apartheid is the official policy of racial separation and ill treatment of blacks followed by the government of South Africa between 1948 and 1 989. Q. The white Europeans impose system on south Aftica- (@)A large number of 'whites' had setfled in south Africa and became the local rulers, (b)This system divided the people and labeled them on the basis of their skin colour. (chfhe native people of Africa are in black colour and were called blacks, Besides these two groups there were people of mixed races who were called coloured, (@ifhe white rulers treated all non whites as inferiors and they did not have voting rights, (e}fbe apartheid system was particularly oppressive for the blacks. They were forbidden from living in white areas, could work in white areas only if they had a permit. (trains, buses, taxis, hotels, hospitals, ete were separate for the whites and blacks, This was called segregation. Q.How did it come to an end ? The African national congress was formed which the struggle against the policies of segregation.
