WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT

Jose, John Anthony

Week #: 1
20-22 January 2015
20 January 2015 (8 hours)
1. Oriented for internship activities for PLDT Garnet (Ortigas)
o PLDT Garnet s main activity is about operational support.
Mainly, when a client raised an issue regarding their
subscription. The NSAT (another division of PLDT) will first
attempt to fix through software. Afterwards, if it has not
been fixed, the issue (in here, they call it ticket), it will be
forwarded to this office. So that they can replace the
hardware. Metro Manila is partitioned into four divisions.
Garnets area of operation covers only the East Greater
Metro Manila.
2. met the supervisors and employees
o Sir Nelson Lapus, Field Force Head
o Sir Lourdan Coma, our supervisor-in-charge
3. Tutorial of Operations Support of PLDT Garnet like faulty
Integrated Voice & Data (IVD)
o We used the software called Clarity to check the status of
all PLDT ports in metro manila. Whenever the status light
turns from green to red, it shows that the hardware is not
communicating well to the software. Hence, we used it to
trace the faulty hardware so that we can to the site and
replace the existing to a new set. In this day, a team went
to a condo bldg near the office and replace the hardware
called IVD (which creates a 32-port telephone and internet
connection to that building) to a new one as the existing
IVD shows faulty connection to the software.
21 January 2015 (8 hours)
1. encoded new sets of equipment in the equipment database
a. In order to keep track of the sets of equipment coming in
and out of the office and to other branches, PLDT uses the
software called NETFIMS to encode all the important details
of a hardware just procured. In this day, we encoded about
30 pieces of equipment.
2. tutorial with cross-connect between two ports

a. Sir Gabby, a senior employee, demonstrated to us on how

to do cross-connection between two ports. As explained to
us, this procedure shall create a new 32 subscription lines.
Basically, it is a simple connect between two ports. But, the
challenge is making the lines organized as there are about
hundreds of thousands connection inside the room.
3. helped in cleaning up wires of discontinued/legacy connections.
a. As the technology rapidly changes, PLDT adapts by
replacing the existing equipment to a new sets of
equipment. In 1995, they used SIEMENS equipment for
voice and data. But now, as the technology requires more
sophistication, they are replacing it a HUAWEI for
integrated voice & data. As of the present, they are still
migration process. Hence, we are tasked in aiding them to
groom it by removing the discontinued connection to the
SIEMENS equipment.
22 January 2015 (4 hours)
1. fixed some database namespace for faster searching
a. Sir Lourdan, our supervisor, asked for our help in fixing the
filenames of their image database for faster better
searching. Previously, they dont have a standard file name
format. So, he requested us to replace the proper filename.
2. discussed about possible new internship activities in PLDT Garnet
a. Sir Raymond, a higher senior employee, discussed to us
about we can do more so that our internship can be more
productive. In summary, we, interns and sir Raymond set
the possible scopes and opportunities and the limitations
we have.
