OutKasts We Luv Deez Hoez - An Academic Analysis!

Disclaimer: I have never written an academic analysis about anything.!

!

After listening to OutKasts seminal album Stankonia, I was left with many

questions concerning this song. Namely, what qualifies as a ho in todays society?

How deep does Big Bois love for the hoez really go, and it is perhaps as fake as the
hoez appearance? Do his warnings about the hoez say more about his attitudes toward
the hoez than about the hoez themselves? All these and more will be explored through
the course of this essay. !
!

At several points during the song, Big Boi makes abundantly clear his love for

having sexual encounters with the hoez. Lines such as I made her eat my meat while I
was rubbin her coochie and Do Re, blow me seem to suggest that his primary
reason for interacting with the hoez is for sexual purposes. Furthermore, he draws
boundaries concerning proper behavior both during the encounters and during times
when they are not having sex. The line She tried to pull my rubber off with her pussy
muscles - that was wrong implies that Big Boi has no intention of impregnating the ho,
and later in the verse he chastises one of his companions for doing exactly that. Several
lines of the first verse warn against getting too familiar with the hoez, and he seems to
believe that if one goes so far as to take a ho to the Cheesecake Factory, one has
overstepped the boundary of proper ho etiquette. If the ho senses that the other party is
interested in more than just sex, she will immediately find a way to become pregnant

and take money from the man, if Big Boi is to be believed. One must ask, what
experience has he had or seen that leads him to make these negative generalizations
about the hoez? Has Big Boi learned from his own experience, or is he retelling false
stereotypes in order to fit in with his friends? It would appear that the only reason for
his love for the hoez comes from his desire to have no-strings-attached sex with them. !
!

But is that really love? The songs hook seems to suggest it isnt. He describes

how everything about the hoez, from their hair to their toes, is fake. He then laughs and
states he loves them, but can you really love someone if they only present a fake self to
you? It could be theorized that he only loves the hoez because he can laugh at them,
and make fun of their over the top appearances. Or does he love them because of that
very fact? Is it because of the fact that the hoez are unapologetically putting up a front
and hiding their true selves to have fun? Indeed, does Big Boi envy them in a way, and
their ability to completely change their appearances to exert such influence on his
companions? One may say that the traditional definition of love would imply the desire
to settle down with the person in question and raise a family, but clearly love can come
in many different forms, including the exact opposite.!
!

The last two verses from BackBone and Big Gipp detail their experiences with

individual hoez, and mostly serve to increase the sexual reputations of the two rappers.
Several references are made as to how the hoez enjoy BackBones car and conversational
skills, and these two factors alone seem to be all he needs to convince a ho to have sex

with him. Big Gipp relies on his garden hose and velour sweatsuit to tempt the ladies,
but he echoes Big Bois concerns about becoming too attached to the hoez. He leaves her
immediately after finishing intercourse, and advises the listener to take a couple months
away from a ho rather than falling in love quickly.!
