January 2014

HERA Training Centre

The HERA Training Centre is the division of HERA that provides
International Institute of Welding (IIW) courses as an Accredited Training
Body (ATB) under the NZ IIW Authorised National Body (HERA-ANB).
New Zealand is one of the 56 countries that are members of the IIW. The
IIW has developed a unique and comprehensive system for Education,
Training and Qualification of welding personnel that is used in more than
43 countries. Recognised in many EN, ISO and AS/NZS standards, IIW
qualifications are truly international. For more info please refer to
www.iiwelding.org.

National and IIW Qualifications

The well established HERA AS 2214 Welding Supervisor Course now also
meets the requirements of the Welding Technology Module (WT1) of the
International Welding Inspector "Basic" (IWI-B). This provides a training
pathway from AS 2214 to IWI-B through a one-week Welding Inspection
Module of 40 hrs. Applicants with suitable prior training and experience
can apply to undertake an additional 3 days (24 hrs) of training to
achieve the International Welding Inspector Standard (IWI-S)
qualification.
Reduce rework, improve
productivity and
eliminate waste in the
welding fabrication
process by staff training

These courses are also ideal for those seeking the CBIP Certified Welding
Inspector (CWI) certification.

AS/NZS 1554 Qualification Requirements

Manufacturing and fabrication industries need to assure competence
of welding personnel. Failing this can have significant detrimental
effects both financially and legally.
New Zealand is a seismically active zone requiring special design
considerations to NZS 3404.1 and welding to AS/NZS 1554.1. To comply
with requirements of these standards, the Fabricators must employ
competent welding personnel (ref. Section 4.12, AS/NZS 1554.1). AS
2214, IWI-B, IWI-S and CBIP qualifications are part of this requirement.
Qualified welding personnel is also the essential requirement of the
quality management system for welding AS/NZS ISO 3834 that is
increasingly required in Customer specifications.
