Background
The movie 12 Angry Men begins with a boy who is on trial for
murder of his father. The jury, comprising of 12 men is locked in a
room to decide the verdict of the case. 11 out of the 12 jurors are
convinced that the boy is guilty, however one juror believes that
there is reasonable doubt for the boy to not be guilty. In the rest of
the movie, the jury discusses the case and slowly the juror who
believes the boy is not guilty, convinces the rest that there is
reasonable doubt in the case.
Communication barriers
Juror 1 This juror takes the lead and tries to keep the discussion in
order. He tries to be fair to all jurors despite thinking the boy to be
guilty.
Juror 3 This jurors argument lies on his own prejudices and life
experiences. He comes across as very angry, loud, opinionated and
aggressive. He uses definite words like I know, You cant etc. He
fails to listen to the other jurors and stubbornly stick to his stand.
Juror 4 This juror tries to bring logic in the discussion. Despite not
recalling details about recent films he has seen, he stubbornly sticks
to his stand and is not willing to listen to the others arguments. He
only changes his vote when he compares himself to the spectacle
wearing witness.
Juror 6 Juror 7 This juror came across as indifferent. He was not listening
actively as he was more interested in going to watch the baseball
game. Later, he tries to play games such as naughts and crosses
and finally changes his vote to not guilty only because he feels the
discussion is going to be never ending.

Juror 8 This juror supports juror 8 despite believing that the boy is
guilty. This shows that he is willing to listen and is not stubborn on
his stand.
Juror 9 This juror listens to Juror 8s view and gives him a chance.
He is not stubborn like the rest and realises that spending some
time discussing the boys life is more important than wasting time in
the jury room.
Juror 10 - This jurors argument lies on his own prejudices. He
believes they should not be breaking brains over scum like that. He
comes across as very angry, loud, opinionated and aggressive. He
comes across as the bully in the group and tries to intimidate the
others.
Juror 12 This juror seems to be distracted in the beginning as he is
shown doodling on a piece of paper. He comes across as a person
who is easily swayed as he changes his stand twice.
