FREEDOM HERITAGE MUSEUM LANDED NEW HOME

Museum to be located on Airport Property
Evansville, IN., June 5, 2015 The Freedom Heritage Museum has reached a major
milestone by becoming one of Evansvilles newest attractions. The museum, in partnership
with the Evansville Vanderburgh Airport Authority District (EVAAD), has received a letter of
intent from the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Airport Authority for a thirty-year, three-plus
acre ground lease. The site for the new museum is located on Highway 41, between the
Hampton Inn Evansville Airport and Tri-State Aero (the previous location of the Evansville
Regional Airport terminal). As our community pulled together and made sacrifices during
WWII to become the most productive war city in the world per capita, today we invite our
community to come together once again, seven decades later, to build the Freedom Heritage
Museum at the Evansville Regional Airport, says President Richard Litov.
The new museum facility with over thirty-thousand square feet will be an interactive
celebration of Evansvilles rich history related to World War II. Along with an operational
hangar, highlights of the museum will include living history immersion events, virtual
interaction experiences, a variety of artifacts produced in Evansville, and a wall of heroes
celebrating our local World War II home front and veterans that gave us our freedoms. The
museum will also host lectures, seminars, demonstrations, movies, and a variety of
educational experiences.
The museum board has also signed a five-year lease with the EVAAD for a Corporate Hangar
on the west side of the airport, off of Highway 41 on Petersburg Road. The interim hangar will
have office space, storage space, and an area dedicated to the restoration of aviation
artifacts, including a P-47 radial engine, industrial machinery from Republic Aviation (the
former manufacturer of P-47 aircraft in Evansville), and a Taylorcraft airplane. Throughout the
capital campaign process, the interim hangar will host a variety of public events and
educational programs for high school and university students. We are now accepting

donated artifacts from Evansvilles WWII veterans and home front workers for the museums
collection and future display.
The cost to build the new museum facility is $5 million, which will require community support
for Evansvilles newest attraction. For more information, and to find out how you can donate,
