TEN MUST SEE PLACES TO VISIT IN

HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA


Himachal Pradesh is a state situated in the western Himalayas. It mostly consists of the
lower Himalayas, with altitudes ranging from 450 metres to more than 6000 metres above
sea level. It has a variety of must-visit places depending on the travel plans of a visitor
from trekking, adventure sports to sightseeing. The best time to visit Himachal is from midMay to mid-October, as most of the roads are closed afterwards. Himachal Pradesh is also
known as the Land of the Gods, so many temples can be found in this state.
1. Rohtang Pass: One of the go-to places for the tourists, Rohtang Pass is situated
at an altitude of 4000 metres above sea level. It is an ideal place for skiing,
paragliding and sightseeing. It is open from May to October. It is snowcovered throughout the year. People generally find traffic jams during the
peak months, so travelers either need to start early or avoid visiting the place
between June and July.
2. Kheerganga: It is one of the best treks with a natural hot-water spring.
Exhilerating views can be seen in the twelve kilometer trek with tents
available for camping. The best time to visit Kheerganga is between mid-May
and mid-November, after which the trek is closed . Consumption of
marijuana is common and legal in Kheerganga.

1. Mcleodganj: Mcleodganj is the residence of the Dalai Lama. It has some


beautiful places to travel including the Dal Lake, Bhagsunag falls and
Triund hill. From Mcleodganj, bird visits are also done towards the Pong
Wetland.
2. Khajjiar: Khajjiar is often called Indias Switzerland. It has thick forests of the
deodar tree, with the snow-line lying above these woods. A vast stretch of
green meadows beside the snow-covered Himalayas makes it a popular
destination. The best time to visit is from March to October.
3. Spiti valley: A difficult journey from Manali leads to the Spiti valley, which
is a picturesque journey. It is a desert-mountain valley with lakes and
monasteries. The best time to visit is from mid-May to mid-October
4. Parashar Lake: Situated in the Mandi district, Parashar Lake is a beautiful lake
with a piece of land floating inside the water. The island moves inside the
lake. Parashar Lake can be visited both in winter and in summer. Depending
on a visitors preference, Parashar can be seen as a white, snow-covered lake
or a green, grassy stretch. In winter, Parashar is difficult to visit with the path
covered in three feet of snow.

1. Shikari Devi: Located in the Mandi district, Shikari Devi offers some beautiful views
both on the way and from the hilltop. The path is bumpy but the location is
mesmerising. The hilltop is reached by climbing almost 500 (485, to be precise) steps
where the temple can be seen.

2. Kangra Fort: It is a historic fort built in the 4th century BC. This one is for the
architecture lovers, with a museum accompanying the fort. The fort has survived
earthquakes and a lot of battles.
3. Bijli Mahadev Temple: The temple of lightning is located in the Kullu valley. It is
reached after a trek of 3km. The Parvati valley, along with the Kullu Valley can be
seen from the temple.
4. Kali Ka Tibba: Kali ka Tibba is situated in Chail. It is an ancient temple with goddess
Kali as the deity. It offers a beautiful scenery of the Shivalik Range.

Other notable places include Bir and Billing, which is the biggest paragliding place in India,
Saryolsar lake, the Great Himalayan National Park and Kasauli. Himachal is a great venue to
relax and ignore the daily rituals.
