Shaw University Statement Regarding Band Director

Shaw University has suspended band director Charles Brown with pay while
administrators investigate behavior alleged to be inconsistent with the University's
policies and principles. An interim director will be named shortly.
Administrators emphasized that Browns current suspension is unrelated to the
recent reallocation of band scholarships and is strictly a personnel matter.
Additionally, the suspension will not affect financial aid awards previously given to
student band members. The paid suspension is not a punishment or disciplinary
action, but a standard process necessary for a thorough and reliable investigation of
the allegations.
These are only allegations, but due to the seriousness of the accusations, the
University is obligated to investigate and takes matters of this nature seriously.
