WORLD WAR I BATTLES: NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

DUE TUESDAY MARCH 9th

Some of the bloodiest battles ever fought occurred were fought during WWI, resulting in
terrible devastation and a tremendous loss of human lives. The nations leading these
battles - France, Germany, Britain, Russia, and Ottoman Empire - made few gains. You
will explore one of five of the major battles:
 The Battle of Tannenberg
 Battle for Gallipoli
 The Battle of the Somme
 The Battle of Verdun
 The Battle of Ypres (also known as Passchendaele-began in 1917).

You will work individually to write a newspaper article in the voice of a journalist. Your
article to take the form of:
 A day-to-day account of life on the battlefield
 An article reflecting soldiers feelings about the war
 The outcome or significance of the battle in the war/history
 Feature story on a specific technology or a specific individual
 Etc.

Your article should include information from 5 of the bullets below:


 where the battle occurred
 what led to its occurrence,
 battle conditions, such as the weather.
 who was involved,
 how many casualties,
 types of weapons used,
 the end result of the war (who "won" the battle and its effect on everything around
it, including civilians)

The article should meet the following requirements:


 250 words, or 1 page in length
 Accurate facts and statistics
 Correct grammar and spelling
 At least one map and picture
 Bibliography
