Note: I do not work strictly to a specific brand of thread just use a color that is most
suitable to fit in with the others hence you will not find brand names and codes rather a
description.
Also note that machine stop colors are just there to make the machine stop for you to
perform certain tasks but are of no specific color. You can thread any color you like

Please read carefully: These potholders or ornaments are completely done ITH by using the
appliqu technique. All 6 designs have the same principle but each is different. What
happens is that your machine will stitch a placement line and you place a piece of fabric over
that and hold it down while your machine stitches it in place. You then remove the hoop
from your machine and trim off the fabric around the tacking line. BUT you need to leave a
seam allowance if the fabric to one side borders to the outer edge of the project. Place hoop
back and carry on in the same manner with the other fabric pieces. Please also not that
some of the designs will have appliqu detail for the owls eye area.
I took pictures for one of the potholders but the procedure for the orders is similar:
Method:
Tightly hoop a piece of light weight fabric like poly cotton or cheese cloth. Place a piece of
low loft batting into your hoop and place another piece of light weight fabric over the
batting. Hold in place while machine stitches 1st color.

Next is the placement line for the 1st piece of fabric place fabric on top, hold and let
machine tack it down with next color. Remove hoop from machine and trim off excess fabric
remember to leave a small seam allowance towards the outer edge of the project to be

Return hoop to machine and let machine stitch the placement line for your next fabric piece.
Proceed as above- repeat until all appliqu fabric is placed.

Once the last fabric piece is trimmed and hoop is placed back to the machine it will stitch the
design complete. This potholder has no appliqu detail in the eye area

But here is an example of how to go about it

or here:

Finishing the project is identical for all:

Cut 2 pieces of fabric you plan to use as backing each fitting comfortably over the hoop.
Neaten edges with pinking scissors and fold a small allowance to the wrong site fix down
with a glue stick.

Create loop and place as shown:

Place the fabric pieces right sides facing the right side of the embroidery into your hoop
overlapping each other. Make sure fabric around the edges of the project in the hoop is nice
and flat and does not curl up (that is why the seam allowance is so important). Stitch last
color use a flat article or your fingers to hold down the fabric so foot and needle dont get
hooked.

Remove work from hoop and trim away excess fabric and batting.

Fine tune with a smaller, very sharp scissors.

Turn right side out and say hello to a new arrival !

Best wishes
