Universidad de Caldas

September 25th, 2015

During the first part of the session, professor Yamith
Fandio made a review and provided a further explanation on the reading What do we want teachingmaterials for in EFL teacher training programs? by
Dr. Mehrak Rahimi.
Later, students were asked to make an introductory
activity which consisted on reading a list of materials
and choosing the ones students would take with
them to teach adults in a particular extreme context.
Then, students were asked to discuss and share their
preferences and the reasons for chooosing them.
After the enriching discussion, the professor shared
a very overwhelming letter he found in a magazine
during his flight to Manizales, Colombia. The students
made a deep reflection from this letter based on their
experience as teachers.
Some time after, professor Fandio started explaining
a second material called Guas Integradas para diseo de materiales which contained relevant and summarized information on how to make Synoptic charts.
After that, the students designed a synoptic chart
based on the principles proposed by Loughran, and
Russell (2006) and adapted by Rahimi in his reading

some videos in regards
to didactics of language
teaching resources.
Among the videos, there
were a couple of interesting speeches made by
Jack C. Richards, an internationally renowned specialist in second and foreign
language teaching.
Later, professor Fandio continued expanding the content
from the readings Managing resources and using materials
written by Gower, R., Walters, S., & Phillips, D. (2005), and
Materials and resources for ELT by Trujillo, F., Torrecillsa, J., & Salvadores, C. (2004). Afterwards, he asked the
students to design and create a comparative matrix in
groups. Finally, students created and account on Google
