GettingStarted

Beforebeginningtheexercises,youneedtoinstallandregisterthesoftware.
AutoCADStructuralDetailingsoftwarecomeswiththeAutoCADRevitStructure
Suite.Thissoftwareisonlyavailablefor32bitWindowsXP/Vistasystemsandcannot
beinstalledon64bitmachines.

ExploringtheUserInterface

OpenAutoCADStructuralDetailing,Steelmodule,andtakeaminutetoviewthe
differentareasoftheinterface.

AtthetopoftheinterfaceisthestandardMicrosoftWindowsbasedmenubar.You
canaccesseachoftheAutoCADStructuralDetailingmenusbyclickingthemenu
name.Belowthemenubararethetoolbarswithiconbasedbuttonsthatrepresent
somecommonAutoCADStructuralDetailingcommands.

ObjectInspector
OntheleftistheObjectInspector,whereyoucanmanageAutoCADStructural
Detailingelementsorobjects.ObjectInspectordisplaysdifferentlistsofproject
elementsaccordingtothedesignstage(modeling,positions,orprintouts).Youcan
selectanelementorgroupofelements,modifytheirproperties,orfiltertheelements
thatdisplayintheInspector.Filtersalsoenableyoutodecreasethenumberofmodel
elementsdisplayedinthedrawingarea.


Model/LayoutTabBar
AtthebottomofthedrawingareaisthestandardAutoCADModel/LayoutTabBar.
Thereare2additionaltabsdefinedEditionLayoutandTemplatesLayout.Onthe
EditionLayouttab,youcanmodifythedrawings(documents)generatedforthe
structureelementsorgroupofelements.TheTemplatesLayouttabdisplaysthe
drawingtemplatesdefinedintheproject.

ProgramPreferences

Preferences
ThePreferencesarelocatedinAutoCADsOptionsdialog.TheStructuralDetailingtab
letsyouselecttheworkinglanguage(languageofuserinterface)andthedefaultstart
templatefortheSteelmodule.Thesoftwarehascountryspecifictemplatesdefined
(FrenchRBCS033.dwt,EnglishRBCS044.dwt,PolishRBCS048.dwt,andRussian
RBCS070.dwt).

Whenyouinstallthesoftware,thelanguageoftheinterfaceandthedefaultdrawing
templatesettingsareadjustedautomaticallytomatchtheregionalsettingsofyour
operatingsystem.
IntheOptionsdialog,youcanalsochangedisplaysettings,suchasthelevelofdetail
todisplayinadrawing.Thiscanimprovetheperformanceofthesoftwareonmany
computers.

Projectpreferences
Thesepreferences(material/profiledatabases,andstylesofdescriptions,dimensions,
andtables)arerelatedtoaparticulartemplateandproject.Usingthisdialog,youcan
adddatabasesorstylesatanytimeduringprojectdefinition.

CreatingaSteelStructure

Inthislesson,youwillcreatethefollowingsteelstructuremodelusingthetools
availableintheSteelmoduleofAutoCADStructuralDetailing.

CreatingaNewProject

Inthisexercise,youwillcreateandnameaprojectinwhichyouwilldefineasteel
structure.

1 ClickFilemenuhNew.
2 IntheSelecttemplatedialog,selectRBCS044.dwt(Englishtemplate),
andclickOpen.

projectautomaticallyormanually,dependingonprojectpreferences.Inthiscase
(usingaBritishtemplate),assembliesarecreatedautomatically,exceptthoseofloose
parts(singleelementswithoutanyadjoinedparts).Todefineassembliesfromloose
parts(purlins,bracings,andbracerods),firstyouchangesettingsintheProject
preferencesdialog.
