The screws at the gun mantiet (parts BB and B2) are shown the wrong way round. The other thing isthe ‘small searchight at the turet (Part 8-13). The searchiight should point to the backside of the vehicle, not to the front side as the: Instruction says. Small improvements | mado wore limited to some ‘welding Seams around hatches and iting hooks. Final | used an aluminium turned barrel from RB-Models (No. 35-628). This is fbeolutely not a “must” - but | ke this smal aftermarket high tech product. Especially the most upper areas should look brighter: By adding some crops of XF-3 yellow to the green camo mixture | reached the suitable effect. Betore moving ino the futher finishing stages | added even more highlights and tones by brushing acrylics onto the details. Next carne mary fiters Using shades of yellow, green and brown. Finally a number of pin washes of Raw Umber, Black and a ight rst colour were added. A good coat of Model Master Dullcoat was applied to dull the shinny surface. The gun is certainly the most chailenging Cf the kit but utimately wrt It, tackle it with a oat ‘A complex assembly ike the mutt-panel bodywork is ‘always going tobe a challenge, Dragon have designed ‘tal very well and the detal i frst rate right down to the weld beads, which everiap onto the joining panels for a pertect finshed ettct. Thin Gunze Mr Cement was used to join short sections one-at-a-time of the longer parts and | found | had to enlarge the location {cut-outs on the sponsons to got the side panel to ft “Take plenty of time with dy fiting. Some tiny touches. of filer here and there and some Mi Surfacer over the Joints and the job was done. Confusion withthe plan ‘comes up again with some ofthe fnal assembly ‘stages, the idler shown as a one piece part but has a ‘separate centre cap on the eprue and a few wrongly ‘numbered parts which are no big desl. The etched gros provided are nice, but even with an out-of. tne ‘box bud | chose to replace the chunky looking kit towing cable with a superior length from Karaya. It was a relet that single piece DS ‘rubber chevron ‘racks are included to avoid any time consuming assembly, the detalis great and the sprung look of ‘these sve tracks is best achieved with these single piece bands in my opinion BUT, the tracks are too long Fortunately the OS material is easly bonded with lquié cement, and after removing two Inks trom each sie | found the tension looked about right “The fineh of olve drab ie often debated amongst modelers. The arvas | concentrated on were where the crew would work or gain access as the ‘masking, when removed, would reveal tho ole crab “whore dust has been worn off. The gouache is Arbrushed on in random patches and then worked vith a damp brush, keeping it heavy on the running ‘gear etc, work from photos where yeu can. With the ‘masking fui removed with some scrunched-up masking tape, further work with a damp brush blends everything together. Me gouache gives a nice chalky ‘matt finish tke pigment powders you might use, unlike powdered pigments, it stays stable on the surface flowing shaaling and highight to be added with paint. Further highights are painted wath a lighter moc of body colour and a fine brush to emphasize small raised deta ike bolts and hinges- time consuming but etfectve, Detail painting was done in ne particular order using acrylic from Lfecolor and Vale, cis and more ‘gouache. | find mixing mediums euts out ying tne 4 7 4 # Vd ‘when modeling time Ie at a premium (eouned familar to some of you?..) Once the running ‘90ar had been detail painted | added the trac ‘which I base coated in Valeo biack-grey anc ‘woated with a thick mix of MIG pigment and water. When the pigment was dry I rubbed it away from the face ofthe chevrans revealing the dark grey to represent the rubber treads. | followed this method witn the inner surtace of the ‘res. Front mudguards were added after the ‘wack, be careful as the locating points are a ‘few other items to point out are the ammo stowage racks and crew stowage. The ammo containers have a cistinetive yellow band marking which are eupplied as a number of decals. Thinking these would be tricky to apply ‘and maybe a tle strong in coleur, | roughly lbruched yellow acryic acroes the tubes and when dy, masked a band with Tamiya tape and ‘gave an overall coat of OD. After afew oi! washes over everything | dropped ther Into postion along withthe fre extinguishers. ‘The stowage doesn't come with the kt but as wanted to acd some quickiy | used part of a resin set from Blast Models. These are excellent, ‘although designed to titan M36 they adapted ‘easty ana painted a teat | wanted to add atleast one figure to give some ife and Interest, this one trom the Alpine range isa beaut sculst and casting taking no more than a couple of hours to complete. Again, ming the paint mediums to cut out dying times | concentrated mainly on keeping the colours sympathetic to the scruty vehicle. rm pleased with my ‘Priest stuck to my plan of an out-of-the-box build and 'm happy with tne resus. Dragon passed my test even ‘uess at most of the problems arising from the fact that as with ‘many of toi Kite, there's spruce from other variants, quné ete all coming together as there are inthis Kt. A very fine model cf the M7 can be built from the box contents using basic tools..and a tle bad language, but that is perhaps best kopt for confession? In order to meet these existing requirements and combat the new threats, current US vehicles had to be adapted to Improve their survivabilly an armour protection, From around mid 2008 US forces began to fi improvised unit level armour protection (often called ‘hilly armour’ by the troops) to their Humvoo's and soft skinned vehicles, focusing en the doors and lower body 10 botter protect the crow from the effects of deadly IED's. As the secunty situation in rag, ‘worsened and the conflct raged on, the quality of the add-on armour improved unt eventually most Humvee's wore replaced by epecically manufactured M1114 and M1181 armoured Hurvee's ‘The early convoy patrol Humvee's and gun-trucks were fitted with Swedish stool Hardox plates, which offers improved protection from IED splinters and small arms fre. This level I designed armour protection was fabricated at unit-level in the AO (area of operations}, “whilst level consisted of purpose made armour protection, such a8 armour survivabitty kits (ASK) complete with basic windscreens and add-on airconditioning systems. Ths is not because | am loosing the wil to Ive, but as a result of some especially complex bits of soratchbuilding which in some cases tock days of work but then looked Ike they right have taken 18 matter of hours when completed.
