Certificates No. 1 and No.

1E
For Certificates No. 1 and No. 1E, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade including 40 hours training in the use of manual metal-arc welding
of plate.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training, in the theory and practice of welding including the welding of plate using
the manual metal-arc welding process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of plate using the manual metal-arc welding process.
2.1.4 Certificate No. 2
For Certificate No. 2, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during and apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, during or subsequent to the apprenticeship, one years welding
experience, including 40 hours training in the welding of pipe using the manual
metal-arc welding process.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training, in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this
period, 40 hours training in the welding of pipe using the manual metal-arc welding
process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of pipe using the manual metal-arc welding process.
2.1.5 Certificates No. 3 and No. 3E
For Certificates No. 3 and 3E, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 40 hours training in the welding of plate using the
manual metal-arc welding process with hydrogen-controlled electrodes.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 240 hours
training in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this period,
40 hours training. In the welding of plate using the manual metal-arc welding
process with hydrogen-controlled electrodes.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of plate using hydrogen-controlled electrodes.
2.1.6 Certificate No. 4
For Certificate No. 4, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 40 hours training in the welding of pipe using the manual
metal-arc welding process with hydrogen-controlled electrodes.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training, in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this
period, 40 hours training in the welding of pipe using both the manual metal-arc
welding, welding process with hydrogen-controlled electrodes and gas tungsten arc
welding process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of pipes using hydrogen-controlled electrodes.

2.1.7 Certificate No. 5


For Certificate No. 5, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 80 hours training in the welding of pipe using both the
manual metal-arc welding process with hydrogen-controlled electrodes and gas
tungsten arc welding process. Forty hours training shall be allocated to the use of
hydrogen controlled electrodes and 40 hours to gas tungsten arc welding.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this period,
80 hours acceptable training in the welding of pipe using both the manual metal-arc
welding process with hydrogen controlled electrodes and gas tungsten arc welding
process. Forty hours, training shall be allocated to the use of hydrogen controlled
electrodes and 40 hours to gas tungsten arc welding.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 80 hours
training in the welding of pipe using both the manual metal-arc welding process with
hydrogen-controlled electrodes and gas tungsten arc welding process. Forty hours
training shall be allocated to the use of hydrogen controlled electrodes and 40 hours
to gas tungsten arc welding.
2.1.8 Certificate No. 6
For Certificate No. 6, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 40 hours training in the welding of pipe using the gas
welding process.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this period,
40 hours training in the welding of pipe using the gas welding process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of pipe using the gas welding process.
2.1.9 Certificate No. 7
For Certificate No. 7, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 40 hours training in the welding of pipe using the gas
tungsten arc welding process.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this period,
40 hours training in the welding of pipe using the gas tungsten arc welding process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of pipe using the gas tungsten arc welding process.
2.1.10 Certificate No. 8F
For Certificate No. 8F, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 40 hours training in the welding of plate and pipe using
flux cored-arc welding process.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this period,
40 hours training in the welding of plate and pipe using flux cored-arc welding

process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of plate and pipe using flux cored-arc welding process.
2.1.11 Certificate No. 8G
For Certificate No. 8G, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 40 hours training in the welding of plate and pipe using
the gas metal-arc welding process.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this period,
40 hours training in the welding of plate and pipe using the gas metal-arc welding
process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of plate and pipe using the gas metal-arc welding process.

2.1.12 Certificate No. 9


For Certificate No. 9, a candidate shall meet one of the following:
(a) One years welding experience, subsequent to or during an apprenticeship to an
acceptable trade, including 40 hours training in the welding of plate using an
automatic welding process.
(b) Two years welding experience and documentary evidence of the successful
completion of one or more welding programs, which includes at least 300 hours
training in the theory and practice of welding and, during or subsequent to this period,
40 hours training in the welding of plate using an automatic welding process.
(c) Three years welding experience and, during or subsequent to this period, 40 hours
training in the welding of plate using an automatic welding process.
