DSS
DSS
Integration with Discovery
You can now launch DSS (Dynamic Surveillance System) from the Discovery interface.
You can directly import Discovery CDF files and display the culture and interpretations in DSS
from a Discovery project. The Import Wizard - Select File Type dialog now gives you the option
to select GeoGraphix CDF format.
You can also build a DSS project around an existing GeoGraphix Discovery project using the
Project Wizard in DSS
GeoGraphix maps can be displayed in the DSS window, and production data within the Discovery
database can be used directly by DSS.
14
GeoAtlas
Live Layers
Starting with GeoAtlas 10.0, WellBase layers can now be created as Live Layers. Live Layers
reflect changes in the database without your having to physically update the static layers. Live
layers are displayed in Discovery with a unique icon.
The update of Live Layers occurs when the layer is initially displayed, or when the Update Active
Layer command is selected at any time when the Live Layer is the active layer.
Live Layer updates query the database and incorporate any changes introduced to WellBase since
the layer was initially created using the posting parameters and layer properties that were chosen at
layer creation or most recent static update.
Live Layers allow you to track current events (new Locations, completions, etc.) with minimal
effort.
Drainage Ellipses
The Drainage Ellipse feature is new to GeoAtlas. With this feature, you can use constant values
or ZoneManager Attributes to calculate drainage areas for produced oil or gas, estimated reserves,
or estimated ultimate recovery.
You can create virtual drainage ellipses or save the ellipses to a layer. Virtual drainage ellipses
appear on the map in GeoAtlas, but are not stored permanently.
The area of the drainage ellipse can be calculated for any producing zone using Thickness,
Porosity, Water Saturation, and Volumetric Factor using standard reserve calculations. You can
also create drainage ellipses representing a fixed area.
15
You can also set the line spacing to show a subset of the entire survey (every tenth line, etc.). Axes
Labels can be toggled on to label the Inline and Crossline directions and Line Labels can be toggled
on to show line numbers or names.
The Layer Display Attributes controls change the layer appearance permanently or until the
settings are changed once more using the Layer Display Attributes controls or by updating the
Seismic 3D Basemap layer.
16
You can now restrict the display of pies to wells that have specific attributes for zones in the
project or AOI wells. You can also create conditional pies for wells that have any zone data or any
criteria for a specific zone.
When Wells with Zone Data is selected for the Scout Field, the Operator fields default to =,
and are not editable. The Fm, Attribute or Zone field contains a drop-down list of all zones for
the project or active AOI. The Depth, Vol, Date, or Attribute field contains a drop-down list of
all attributes associated with the selected zone as shown above.
18
IsoMap
IsoMap
Lock Grid Parameters Option
A checkbox has been added to the Grid Spacing page of the Build Surface: Create Layer - Build
Parameters dialog box. This feature, when checked, allows you to preserve the settings for grid
spacing on IsoMap layers. With this feature selected, IsoMap layers can be refreshed without
having to re-enter the parameters on the Grid Spacing page.
19
IsoMap
The checkbox is selected by default, which means that the number of decimals on the map will
depend upon the number of decimals in the corresponding data field in the .dbf file (usually
between 0 and 4). When the checkbox is turned off, the Number of Decimal Places list box
becomes active. You can then use the up and down arrows to adjust the number of decimals to post
on the map. Decimal precision is truncated, not rounded to the desired number.
20
ProjectExplorer
ProjectExplorer
Live Layers
Starting with ProjectExplorer 10.0, WellBase Layers can be designated as Live Layers. Live
Layers are updated quickly by querying the database and incorporating any database changes on
the layer without having to manually update the layer. Live Layers allow you to see operational
changes in your area (new locations, completions, etc.) while keeping the layer parameters and
postings constant.
Live Layers can be designated on the Layer Properties dialog box in ProjectExplorer, by selecting
the Live Layer check box.
Live Layers are updated automatically when the layer is first displayed in GeoAtlas, either from
the Select Layers dialog, or when a saved map (.gmp file) is opened.
21
pStaX
pStaX
SeisWorks Processing Output
Starting with version 10.0 of pStaX, you can output file formats in brick, compressed, or trace
sequential format if you are processing SeisWorks 3D data in a Discovery on OpenWorks project.
The SeisWorks compatible files are output using the Process >> Process Now menu command.
The output file format will match the input file format (i.e. if a .brk file is used as the input file, the
output file will also be a .brk format file).
22
SeisVision
SeisVision
Velocity Surveys vs. Synthetics
Velocity Surveys and Synthetics are now separate Well Components on the Wells tab of the
Interpretation Manager.
Because Discovery and OpenWorks function differently in the handling of Synthetics and Velocity
Surveys, the Velocity Surveys and Synthetics components are split up into the individual elements.
This feature allows you to display the intersections of Inlines and Crosslines using Lines, or Dots.
You can also use Edge Ticks to show the line positions on the outside of the survey grid. You can
also show the limits of the live traces (shown above).
23
SeisVision
Using the Spacing and Annotation controls of this feature, you can limit the number of lines
displayed on the layer, and label Crossline and Inline direction and line numbers or names.
The Layer can be saved as a template, so you can create several layers applying the same grid and
posting attributes to other survey grids.
In previous releases, only one attribute could be displayed at a time because of color palette
restrictions. The single map shared a single color palette. That restriction has been lifted.
SeisVision
This option allows you to display land data, culture data, contours, well postings, or any other
items displayed on GeoAtlas layers on Active or Default Map Views.
The layers are static, and cannot be edited in SeisVision, however updated layers can be selected
for display after editing in GeoAtlas.
The workflow for the two new pages is similar to that of the established 3D Calculator, namely the
2D surveys or attribute files are first selected. Expressions are then defined, and the SVA or new
horizon files are written.
25
SeisVision
26
SeisXchange
SeisXchange
3D SeisWorks Seismic Data Format Output
Three SeisWorks data output formats are now supported when you are transferring 3D seismic
data from SeisVision to SeisWorks. These are brick, compressed, and trace sequential.
27
WellBase
Live Layers
Starting with this release of WellBase, layers can now be created as Live Layers. Live Layers
reflect changes in the database without having to physically update the static layers. The update of
Live Layers occurs when the layer is initially displayed, or when the Update Active Layer
command is selected at any time when the Live Layer is the active layer.
Live Layer updates query the database and incorporate any changes introduced to WellBase since
the layer was initially created using the posting parameters and layer properties that were chosen at
layer creation or most recent static update.
Live Layers allow you to track current events (new locations, completions, etc.) with minimal
effort.
Live Layers are created during the WellBase Layer Create process by selecting the Live Layer
check box.
