Ruby Roberts Monologue

Introduction

Returning back to the SAME ROOM as MADDIES INTERVIEW, this FEMALE

CHARACTER can be seen LEANING FORWARD with her HANDS PLACED on
the PLASTIC CHAIR each side of her. We HEAR her SOFT, SQUEAKY yet
ENERGETIC VOICE as she begins to TALK to the CAMERA.
RUBY TALKING HEAD

Jamie Interrupting her Interview Scene

Off camera, the sound of a DOOR HANDLE being PULLED SLOWLY and
CREAKING can be HEARD, causing the CAMERA to PAN to the DOOR. An
UNKNOWN MALE CHARACTER is seen POKING his HEAD around the
PARTIALLY OPEN DOOR. The YOUNG CHARACTER seemed STARTLED - his
HEAD froze as it POKES around the DOOR for a FEW SECONDS. His EYES
opened SLIGHTLY WIDER as he GLANCED between the CAMERA and the
FEMALE CHARACTER, who we now know as RUBY. RUBY SHUFFLES and
TURNS AROUND to see who it is OPENING the DOOR.
ANOTHER ANGLE
Viewing from the SIDE and CENTRED in the MIDDLE of the TWO
CHARACTERS, another CAMERA can see RUBY REVEAL a SIMILAR reaction.
She too turns back ROUND to GLANCE TO and FRO from the MALE
CHARACTER and the CAMERA.
RUBY
Jamie?
(beat)
Oh hey, err,
(beat)
Im just, Ill be five minutes?
ORIGINAL ANGLE
The MALE CHARACTER, who we now know as JAMIE, continues to look
SPOOKED and GLANCES between RUBY and the CAMERA. He then takes a
SHARP SWALLOW in his THROAT before LIGHTLY pushing OPEN the DOOR.
JAMIE
Hey, err, yeah thats fine
(beat)
I just wanted to ask if you wanted to grab some lunch?
(beat)
Ill err, meet you at the hall.
JAMIE continues to GLANCE at RUBY and the CAMERA, however now more
at RUBY.

RUBY
Yeah, sounds neat!
ANOTHER ANGLE
We view the TWO CHARACTERS from the SIDE, seeing JAMIE GLANCE at
the CAMERA for the LAST TIME, before PEERING a GENTLE SMILE to RUBY.
RUBY RETURNS a SIMILAR SMILE before SHUFFLING back AROUND to face
the CAMERA. Once JAMIE LEAVES the ENCLOSED ROOM, PULLING SLOWLY
the door SHUT, RUBY PULLS a CONFUSED yet CONCERNED FACE to the
CAMERA, as if she REGRETS doing something.
RUBY (CONTD)
(whispering) neat?! Eurh!
She WIPES her FACE in EMBARASSAMENT with ONE of her HANDS, before
SNIGGERING to herself for a BRIEF MOMENT. She then CONTINUES to
SMILE as she begins to TALK again.
RUBY (CONTD)
Oh, thats Jamie, hes auditioning for Shmee which definitely
suits him. (giggle) He thinks hes the funny one out of all of
us.
RUBY then SNIGGERS for a brief moment whilst GLANCING down to the
FLOOR, JOLTING FORWARD on the CHAIR as she LAUGHS. She then JOLTS
back to LEAN to the back of the CHAIR and looks into the CAMERA - still
showing her LARGE SMILE.

Jamie Applauding Ruby for getting the Tinkerbell Role

ALEX (CONTD)
Right so, we will begin with the roles which were easy for us to pick.
Jamie, well done, youve been chosen for the role of Smee. I think
most of us know why.
Some of the AUDITIONEES then GIGGLE whilst CLAPPING LIGHTLY for a
FEW seconds. JAMIE REVEALS a PLEASANT and SATISFIED SMILE, whilst
RUBY, who is SITTING next to him, CLAPS LOUDER than EVERYONE ELSE.
She then LOOKS UP at JAMIE and MIMES something to him.
RUBY
Well done.
She then CONTINUES to look at him, EXPOSING a SHORT SMILE for a few
SECONDS. ALEX then CONTINUES to TALK.
ALEX
Congratulations Ruby,
(beat)
Youre Tinkerbell!

RUBY SOFTLY JUMPS and CLENCHES both of her HANDS in EXCITEMENT,

whilst some of the AUDITIONEES CLAP again.
JAMIE
Well done Ruby! I knew youd get it!
JAMIE, who too is PLEASED with his ROLE, RAISES both of his HANDS and
goes to WRAP them around RUBY to HUG her. However, he SUDDENLY
STOPS halfway through and AWKWARDLY PUTS his HANDS on his KNEES as if he REALIZED he shouldnt be doing what he was going to do. He then
looks around the ROOM SHAKILY in EMBARRASSMENT. RUBY GLANCED
OPENLY at JAMIE which alone HINTED to him not to HUG her.
