Section 3. Installing HBAs

This document provides an overview of the steps to install the HP


EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit. For more information, see the list of
information sources in the HP EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit release notes.
The release notes and all documents referenced in this document are
available at:

HP AJ762A HBAs must be installed in server PCI-e slots. HBA installation


procedures vary by server; however, the following procedure is typical:

3. Remove the blank panel from an empty x4 or higher PCI-e bus slot.

Under Storage, click Disk Storage Systems, and then under EVA
Disk Arrays, select HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array.
For HP Command View EVA, select Storage Software and then HP
StorageWorks Command View EVA Software.

4. Insert the HBA into the empty PCI-e slot, and then press firmly to
seat the HBA.

1. Ensure the computer is powered off.


2. Open the server cover.

5. Secure the HBA's mounting bracket to the case with the panel clip.
6. Close the server cover.

Section 1. Preparing the site


HP Command View EVA can either be installed
on a management server connected to an EVA
(server-based management) or on the EVA4400
management module (array-based management). This
document addresses both.

To ensure continuous, safe, and reliable operation, ensure that the


EVA4400 operating environment meets the following requirements:

Section 4. Connecting the hardware


The EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit is available factory-integrated or
field-installed. The factory-integrated EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit arrives
with the EVA4400 installed in the rack and cabled. The remaining task
is to connect fiber optic cables from the controller ports to each server
HBA. For information about installing the EVA4400 in a rack, see HP
StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array installation guide.
1. Remove the dust caps from the connectors on the SFP transceivers
and fibre optic cables you will be using.
2. Install an SFP transceiver in a switch port.
3. Connect a fiber optic cable between the controller ports and the
HBAs ( Figure 1). The other SP ports will remain unused.

Section 5. Powering on the components


Follow this sequence to power up the components:
1. Apply power to the main power supply in the rack.
2. Apply power to the power strips in the cabinet.
3. Wait for a solid green LED indicator on the enclosure power supply.
4. Power on the EVA by pressing the power/standby button on the
front panel of the controller enclosure.
The LED on the power/standby button changes from amber to solid
green to indicate that the EVA has been powered on.

Section 2. Checking kit contents

CAUTION:
Applying power to the devices out of sequence can cause an
error state in the controller. You can resolve the situation by
resetting the controller power.

The following items are included in the factory-installed HP EVA4400


SAN Starter Kit. Verify that you have all the items listed before beginning
the installation. This scenario assumes that servers are available for
the topology.
HP StorageWorks EVA4400Includes one controller enclosure and
dual HSV300-S controllers with embedded SAN switches, and one
disk enclosure with eight disks, all preinstalled in the rack

5. Wait (up to five minutes) for the EVA to complete its startup routine
and for the Fibre Channel switches to boot.
6. Apply power to the servers in the SAN with access to the EVA.

4. For array-based management, connect the management module
LAN connector to an Ethernet hub using an Ethernet cable, and
then connect either a laptop or server to the same hub using
an Ethernet cable. Alternatively, you can connect a computer
through the Ethernet cable directly to the management module LAN
connector (Figure 2).

When you power on the server, if the monitor displays a


New Hardware Found message and prompts to install
an HBA driver, click Cancel to prevent the installation of an
unsupported HBA driver.
7. Boot the operating system and log on as an administrator.
8. Verify that each component in the SAN is operating properly.

Section 6. Using HP SmartStart EVA


Storage to configure the management
server
NOTE:

Complete the procedures in this section only if you are using


server-based management. Go to section 8 if you are using
array-based management.

3. Management module

HP StorageWorks SmartStart EVA Storage is a CD-based wizard that


you use on your Windows 2003 management server to install software
programs and drivers and configure the EVA4400 storage system.
You can also use HP SmartStart EVA Storage to configure Windows
2003 and Windows 2008 application server. You must configure a
management server before configuring storage to an application server.

Installing software and drivers


Insert your HP SmartStart EVA Storage CD in the drive of your
management server. The HP SmartStart EVA Storage CD automatically
launches SmartStartEVA.exe, which installs multiple applications:

HBA drivers
Multipathing I/O (MPIO) drivers
HP Command View EVA
HP StorageWorks Storage System Scripting Utility for Windows
HP StorageWorks Command View EVAPerf
Storage Management Initiative Specification for EVA (SMI-S EVA)

Configuring the management server


From the HP SmartStart EVA Storage main menu:
1. Click Configure as management server and follow the online
instructions to configure this system as your management server.
2. If the application server is the same as the management server,
click Configure as application server & create storage and follow
the online instructions to configure and provision storage to your
server from the EVA4400.

Section 7. Configuring array-based


management
If you are using array-based management, you must complete the tasks
listed in this section manually. HP SmartStart EVA Storage cannot be
used to complete these tasks.

Completing the array configuration


This task initializes the array for first use, and must be completed before
connecting to the WOCP.
1.

1. LAN connector

After the array is powered up, press and hold the recessed Reset
button (2, Figure 3) of the management module for 5 seconds. The
amber indicator on the top right corner of the LAN connector will
flash when the reset operation is completed.

2. Ensure the management module is connected to a server or laptop
as described in Section 5.
3. Open a browser on the computer that is connected through
Ethernet to the management module. Enter the following URL to
access HP Command View EVA on the management module:
https://192.168.0.1:2372 (this is the default IP address of
the management module after a reset).
4. Enter admin as the user name and no password (the password
field is empty).
5. In the Navigation pane (left pane), select the uninitialized array
name (there is only one).
6. In the Content pane (right pane), click Initialize and follow the
instructions online.
7. Once the initialization is complete, verify that the correct date and
time are set on the array. Select the array name in the navigation
pane and then click System Options in the content pane. Click Set
time options and set the time and date as appropriate.
8. Activate the instant-on license for the EVA4400. Ensure the array is
selected in the navigation pane and then select the Licensing tab
in the content pane. Click Install Licenses, and then click Activate
Instant-on.

Connecting to the WOCP

storage on an application server other
than the management server
If you are using a server other than the management server as an
application server:
1. Insert the HP SmartStart EVA Storage CD into the drive of the
application server.
2. Do one of the following:
If you are configuring the server for the first time, click Configure
as application server & create storage.
HP SmartStart EVA Storage installs the HBA drivers, Multipathing
I/O (MPIO) drivers, and HP VDS Hardware Provider.
If you are adding storage to the server, click Add storage to
an application server.
3. Follow the online instructions to configure and provision storage
to your server.

From a computer connected through Ethernet to the


management module, open a browser and enter the URL:
https://192.168.0.1:2373
2. Enter admin as the user name and no password (the password
field is empty).
3. Under Administrator Options, select Configure Network Options,
and follow the instructions to configure the Ethernet information for
the management module. Click Save Changes.
The management module will reboot. Wait 60 seconds before
reconnecting.
4. After rebooting, use the following URLs to access the WOCP or
HP Command View EVA:
https://management_module_IP:2372 (HP Command
View EVA)
https://management_module_IP:2373 (WOCP)

environment.

Section 10. Configuring the embedded


switch

Section 9. Obtaining an HP Command


View EVA license from HP Webware

The embedded switch in an HSV300-S controller has a default IP address


that might not be visible in your network. Any configuration changes
must be made to both embedded switches in an HSV300-S controller
enclosure. This process involves connecting a cable from the Ethernet
port of each switch to a laptop computer and supplying switch addresses
that are valid for your network. For instructions, see HP StorageWorks
4400 Enterprise Virtual Array installation guide.

HP recommends that you obtain the license key from the HP Webware
website. See your License Entitlement Certificate for other options to
request a license key if you are unable to use the online option.
For more information, see HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array
license key installation instructions.
To install a license key from HP Webware:

Follow this procedure to configure basic parameters in the management


module and the WOCP.

If you did not register previously or if you did not select the I am
the License owner box, enter your contact information under
License owner (End-User) information.
Click Next.
The License certificate page appears.
Click the link on the certificate page to save the license
key/password file in the format filename.dat to a location of
your choice.
Copy the license key as instructed in the License Certificate.
Launch HP Command View EVA.
Select the appropriate array under Storage Systems.
Click the Licensing tab on the Storage System Properties page.
Click Install Licenses.
Paste the license key in the form provided. For multiple licenses,
separate each license key with a carriage return.
Click Install Licenses.
This completes the procedure for installing HP Command View EVA,
HP Business Copy EVA, and HP Continuous Access licenses.
Exit the web browser.

Go to http://webware.hp.com and click Generate New licenses.


The Generate license(s) window opens.
Obtain the HP order number from the License Entitlement Certificate,
enter it in the Order number, box, and then click Next.
Based on information obtained from the order, a list of available
products appears on the Product selection window.
Select the product identified on your License Entitlement Certificate
from the product list, and then click Next.
The Order product(s) detail window opens.
Enter the following information:
The Number of LTUs listed as Quantity Ordered on your License
Entitlement Certificate (typically 1).
The WWN for the array in the format xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (19
alphanumeric characters, including dashes).
Click Next.
The Members sign-in window opens.
Enter your information:
If you registered previously, enter your e-mail address and
password in the Existing members box, and then click Sign-in.
If you did not register previously, enter your e-mail address,
create a password, and then reenter your password in the First
time users box. Click Sign-in.
The Address Information window opens.
Complete the requested information.
If you are the license owner, select the I am the License owner
box.
If you registered previously, License owner (End-User) information
automatically populates.

Powered up the EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit


Installed the management server (optional)
Provisioned the storage
Obtained the necessary licenses
Configured the switches

Congratulations, your applications are now ready to use your newly


installed HP EVA4400 storage array.
