SUBSTITUTE PLANS –FRIDAY, February 22, 2008

Homeroom – They just read their reading counts books. Last 10


minutes of class, have them help you distribute the green Language
Network books on the bookcase in the left corner of the room by the
flag. Please place them on each desk. Period 3 is going to need them.
*Last 10 minutes of Period 3, have students collect them and return
them to the same bookcase.

Periods 1, 5, 6 –- English 8

Go over rules prior to class. Tell them if they do not comply they will be
writing them the whole period quietly (In front of the class left side of
blackboard). Also, list students who were good and those who were bad.
Feel free to send anyone extremely disobedient to the Referral Room
(Room 103).

FIRST HOUR:
1. Give students 10 minutes to do journal question.

END OF CLASS.

SECOND HOUR:

1. HAVE STUDENTS INDEPENDENTLY WORK ON THE


PAST PERFECT WORKSHEETS
2. COLLECT THEM AND PUT THEM IN THE
APPROPRIATE FILE TRAYS UNDER THE FLAG AT THE
END OF CLASS.
3. READ ALOUD – ALPHABET CITY BALLET. Begin reading
on page 61. Please tell me where you stop.

Homework: Reading logs.


Study for THANK YOU M’AM test this Tuesday. Test
will be on story/grammar of the week.
*Please make sure that there are no books on the floor when each class
leaves for the day. Thank you for your help.

Homeroom – They just read their reading counts books. Last 15


minutes of class have them help you put out the dictionaries similar
to the ones on some of the desks. The dictionaries are located in the
bookcase on the left side of the room.

Period 1, 5, 6 –- English 8
Go over rules prior to class. Tell them if they do not comply they will be
writing them the whole period quietly (In front of the class left side of
blackboard). Also, list students who were good and those who were bad.
Feel free to send anyone extremely disobedient to the Referral Room

1. Journal 10/10/07– Identify if the following sentences are similes or
metaphors:
Ms. Ponce will be as angry as a hornet if we get a bad note
from the substitute.

The fog was a blanket covering the valley floor.

The wind howled like a trapped animal.

2. Have the students watch the movie Freaky Friday and they
answer the Movie Plot Question hand out. Collect papers at end of
period and put in appropriate tray (circle stickers above the tray
indicate the period) under the flag.
3. Read Autobiography of My Dead Brother (blue novels under their
desks) together with the class. Choose students to read randomly.
(Start reading on the following pages: Per. 1. page 37; Per. 5 page
24; Per. 6 page 32) Please tell me where you stop in the novels for
each period.

Draw 1 line under the simple subject and 2 lines under the simple
predicates.

pages 211 (Compound Subjects). Then, on a separate piece of paper
have them complete the activities on
page 212 – A. Concept Check: Compound Subjects

5. Collect papers at end of period and put in appropriate tray (circle


stickers above the tray indicate the period) under the flag.

SECOND HOUR:
6. As a class read Time article King of the Cowboys. On a separate piece
of paper have the students copy and answer all the Reader’s Response
and Writer’s Response questions. Collect and put in the appropriate
tray under the flag.
7. Read aloud last 15 minutes of class: Alphabet City Ballet to the class
(ask Roy Cortez or Polet Quiroz where we stopped). On a separate
piece of paper they need to write a ½ page summary of what was read.
Collect and put in the appropriate tray under the flag.

Homework: Reading logs. Study Inspiration story. Test on Thursday.
