Meeting Favorite Stamp Column

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, March 20, 2010,
from 1:30-3:00PM, at the Bundy Museum, at 129 Main
Street, Binghamton, NY. The beautiful Bundy Museum
is accessible by car, on foot, and by public transportation

In February, in honor of Black History Month, Stuart
Geisler (President) gave a lecture, slide presentation, and
display case demonstration on the Postal History of Slav-
ery. He also discussed the role of New York in the Aboli-
tionist Movement, and the role of Abolition in the
Feminism Movement, which started in New York. David
Decker (Dealer/Club Member) augmented his lecture
with a Slave Receipt for a slave transaction.. Club mem-

Monthly Investment Tip Beginners Corner

My tip of the month, celebrating St.
Patrick Day, induces me to recommend
this stamp set from Ireland, which is very
popular worldwide. In 1956, Ireland
honored Commodore John Barry
(Philadelphia's Irish-born
naval commander), founder
of the US Navy, with a set Scott 155-6,
which catalogues $16.00 MNH. This is a
good set to buy for your collection! If you
want to learn more please come the Club.
Watermarks are designs that stamp manufacturers put in
the paper used to make stamps, in order to identify their
product. Stamps with the same picture on them can be
made with different watermarked papers, which necessi-
tates a stamp collector identifying the stamp by examin-
ing the watermark in the paper. This is done by dunking
the stamp in watermark fluid or lighter fluid, which
shows the watermarks…..just don’t smoke while examin-
ing watermarks, this fluid is highly flammable!!!!!
