Introduction:

Jaguar, a car company that has a long history of creating some of the most beautiful
automobiles in the world. Jaguars are known for their obvious beauty, refinement, and passion.

Your introduction was very strong as you connected it back
to your personal life. I also really liked how you drew
speculation about what the future may hold such as the
potential of a new Jaguar model. You also made it clear as
to what this paper would be about by stating it before
moving on to a new subject.

All of these things combined is what makes the soul of a Jaguar, what distinguishes it from
anything else on the street. It all truly started with Jaguars intensive participation in the 24 hour
Le Mans races in the early 1950s. Through the years Jaguar made some of the most iconic
automobiles on Earth such as the C-type, D-type, E-type, and more recently the F-type. Each one
of these incredible machines took a piece of its predecessor so the very recent F-type is an
embodiment of the classics it replaces, a true automotive evolution.
This evolution that Jaguar has created is quite evident with everyone, just about every
expert/car reviewer acknowledges this fact when they speak of Jaguar sports cars, particularly
the F-type. Most people are completely engulfed now with the F-type, and forever will people be
in love with the E-type. There is however a question about the future. What will the replacement
of the F-type be or even be called? This is something that has never been speculated but poses a
very interesting question. Would this Jaguar be called the G-type that simply takes on the
characteristics of the previous car, which is already a collection of previous design ques?
Overall, with this paper I want to explain this sports car evolution while taking a step further to
observe what the future may hold.
My love of this incredible company came from my childhood. One of the first cars that I
truly connected with was the D and E-types, like most people fell in love with. I always had an
eye for detail and the more I looked at the cars, there were no bad angles everything was perfect.
Those cars mesmerized me and as I grew I was able to appreciate the performance, style, and
general sense of swagger it presented. Throughout the paper I also wish for those reading to

I really like that you are questioning the future of the Jaguar
brand. This is a great topic to help further the research of
this particular brand because it is questioning what the next
best vehicle could possibly be. Do you really think this is
adding to the research though because in my mind I would
think they are constantly thinking about the next car or else
they would be out of business.

It is good that you clearly said what this paper is going to be
about so it minimizes confusion on the readers part. You
might want to go more in depth on why examining the
future of these cars are so important. Do they try to make
the best car for the competition or the money?

This is a very good paragraph to add because it shows that
you are truly passionate about theses cars. It is clear in your
paper that you really do know a lot about this brand of car
and you are fascinated by it. It also gives the reader a sense
of when you were first exposed to the topic.

appreciate and understand the company for what it is and what it is trying to achieve in this
modern day civilization, at the same time portray an image of where Jaguar can go in the future.
Entering Conversation:
To imagine Jaguar dominating the racing world like it did in the 50s is actually quite
unlikely. Jaguar today is going down a road of creating cars for the masses which are refined,
luxurious, but also has the sportiness that harkens back to its origins. Cars such as the F-type
suggest this very well, its an excellent sports car but will most likely not be a track king with the

Why do you say that Jags dominating the racing world is

acceleration? All of these can be used in your conversation.

competition today. The vehicles that come out of the Jaguar factories are now mainstream status
symbols that are very capable but, have lost much of its true essence it had back in Jaguars
racing days. But does anyone truly care? In an F-type review done by Chris Harris, he goes
through and talks about the interior and its negatives [1] C. Harris. (2014) CHRIS HARRIS ON

What does mainstream mean in this context? How come

bits of plastic and certain spots of fake leather. Obviously with this much emphasis on the
interior, it is quite safe to say that even hard core drivers like Chris Harris realize Jaguar is more
of a pedestrian vehicle but also a superb sports car on the side.
Some may also argue that Jaguar today and most certainly yesterday, is a vehicle of true
beauty. It doesnt matter what Jaguar it is, if its a sports car or a big luxury sedan, every Jaguar
has a certain kind of presence. Writer Delong goes on to celebrate Malcolm Sayers supernatural
ability to design cars and his achievement in creating the D and E-type [2] M. Delong, (Jan

techniques from the aerospace world and try to incorporate it with his cars so it can be said that

I really like the fact that you back up the idea that Jags are
astonishing and has exquisite taste. You do so by providing
facts about the car's appearance through sources that are
reputable. You also go down the lineage of the Jag's history
and how it has changed.

the D and E-types are the closest to a plane you can get on the road. This is true credibility
however, the F-type that surpasses these cars utilize their lines in design and is a true
aerodynamic master piece done by Ian Callum. It even won the World Car Design Award in
2013, which is not surprising since it takes a classic design and moves it forward in the 21st
century [3] M. Bessette (June 2013) Jaguar F-Type Coupe Announced | Autofluence,
Autofluence. [Online]. Available at: http://blog.dupontregistry.com/jaguar-england/jaguar-f-typecoupe-announced/. [Accessed: 2015]. The current vehicle truly is spectacular however, the next
iteration will be a true spectacle to be observed.
Certainly this next replacement of the F-type will be heavily focused on design much like
all of its predecessors. The F-type design is so evolutionary that everyone is engulfed in it and
even the thought of a replacement is far out of anyones mind, just observing the now is
something to behold. However, it should be common knowledge that company does not stop
producing and researching. In an article by Engineering, they interview designer Gerry
McGovern at the parent company of Jaguar, Land Rover Range Rover. Then Land Rover Jaguar
duo share much of the same concepts in design and engineering. McGovern describes how
design is a cars core value [4] Engineering, Core Values. [Online]. Available at:
http://www.engineeringmagazine.co.uk/features/corevalues.html. [Accessed: 2015]. This is
evident in the E-type Jaguar which is why everyone was mesmerized by it. From the awards that
the F-type has received, it obviously caries this torch of beauty. Another aspect that must be
present in the next generation of sports car from Jaguar.
During the early 50s when the C and D-types ran the racing circuit of Le Mans, these
stunning looking cars were dominating the race world and setting all kinds of records. No other
sports car from Jaguar quite followed suite in the same way as those two. The next two

reincarnations were known more for their beauty however, the F-type does boast big power in
the V8 form. It would be interesting to see if the new version of this car will be much more
track/racing focused like the C and D-types in the past. The editors of Consumer Guide took the
liberty to post an article on How Stuff Works describing how every year during the 50s, Jaguar
would do constant modifications to improve the C/D-types performance and the only time they
tweaked the looks was to improve aerodynamics [5] Jaguar D-Type, March 2007
HowStuffWorks, [Online]. Available at: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/jaguar-d-type.htm.
[Accessed: 2015]. Nowadays, when a Car company makes adjustments to a car, it usually has to
do with the electronics of it. This can sometimes make a car faster but usually it is for refinement
purposes. With the rate that technology and cars are headed, the new evolution of the F-type may
also go down this path.
Overall, its the way the crowd reacts when they see a new Jaguar unveil that really
counts. There is a documentary about the E-type done by Roger Woodley on the History channel
describing the pure sensation that ran through the world when the E-type was unveiled [6] R.
Woodley & N. Dewis, 2009 Documentary of the Jaguar E-type. Great Britain: History Channel

And in truth the follow up of the F-type should do absolutely the same. If this is to occur the
design must be completely on point like McGovern described. Performance can get away with
being adequate as long as the driving characteristics are superb such as, steering feel, smooth
shifting transmission, or even a manual transmission. This is only to be expected if you are to
look at the history. I also went on to say that any new iteration should go on to take on the
characteristics of any previous Jaguar, this will help to preserve the Jaguar soul [7] K. Meyn,

October 2015 Assignment 1 Class/Lecture Notes, in Assignment 1. The new should always
remember where it came from and hold whats dear to pass it on.
Literature Review:
Much of Jaguar is known for its racing pedigree from the 1950s. Truth be told, Jaguar

only had a decade worth of note worth racing heritage and by the time the 60s rolled around,
Jaguar was known for something totally different. It was during this time that Jaguar unveiled the
E-type. The world was blown away by its spectacular design and aura. This car however, did not
fare well in the racing world, but it still was an excellent road car. It had the greatest performance
specs at the time with the car hitting 155 mph, excellent handling, and good acceleration. Despite
all of this, the E-type was known as the pretty car and not a performance demon.
Ever since the E-type, most Jaguars have been known for their looks and presence. The
work of Malcolm Sayer certainly made Jaguar seem like a good looker but with capable
performance. His aerospace designs are still present today [2] M. Delong, (Jan 2015) "'E' is for
the Ellipse, [Online]. Available at: http://etype.inetogether.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/5e_is_for_ellipse-150702.pdf. [Accessed: 2015]. The F-type today immediately was recognized
for its performance during its unveiling. Yes everyone knows that since it is a Jaguar, it will have
great performance figure, but not the best. With companies like Porsche and BMW who take
precision engineering very seriously, Jaguar doesnt perform at quiet the same level these
companies do. Perhaps Jaguar knows this and now they make cars simply for the fun factor of
driving which is perfectly fine in the computer age of cars to have raw authentic fun. Jaguar
today is really something to be seen in, its a car that speaks through design [7] K. Meyn,
October 2015 Assignment 1 Class/Lecture Notes, in Assignment 1.

I really like how you went back and reiterated exactly what
the Jaguar is known for. This really emphasizes why it is an
elite car and why it has won so many awards. You also go on
to describe its key attributes which is useful to the reader.

Perhaps the next iteration may follow in the same footsteps, or even go back to the days
of the D-type to be successful in racing. Jaguar is a company that truly most go both ways in
design and performance. Each car must be something special to sit in as well as something you
yearn to drive. Whether the car wins races today is not a particular necessity for the brand
however, if their new product turns out to be a racer than it is still living the Jaguar pedigree.
Conclusion:
Throughout the paper, I spoke about the figured world that is the evolution of Jaguar
sports cars. Starting with the Jaguar C-type, I went through and described what Jaguar stands for
as a company, as well as where the company is today with the F-type. Where I wish to go
forward with all of this is to see what Jaguar has in store next following the F-type. A good
majority of the conversation dealt with sources that are in love with Jaguars past as well as what
it is doing today. Almost no one is interested in or even mentions where Jaguar can take all of
this history and pedigree to in the future. Most of what is on the surface such as design and
performance are discussed to be a necessity in a jaguar, but more so the refinement aspect of the
car is also in question for a Jaguar of today. Throughout the conversation I wished to see what
side Jaguar will go more in depth with when they are making the replacement for the F-type, will
it be a full out racer or a comfortable good looking cruiser. The reason why this matters is
because the future of what Jaguar can stand for could be in stake. Its a matter of will Jaguar
want to remember its racing days or not. Obviously they still do by making special edition Ftypes that resemble the old D-type, but it can only mimic the looks of the D-type. The new
replacement of the F-type is something that should be speculated to determine the future of the
brand affecting not only its sports cars but the rest of the lineup of mainstream cars most people
buy. To know more about Jaguar and its sports cars is to understand where the sports car industry

will be headed. People watch what Jaguar do since it is so iconic, its a brand that really needs to
keep up with its history and critics want to see that they are. Studying more in depth Jaguar can
help understand what the mass of consumers are looking for, more luxury or more performance,
since Jaguar does both. When you start to see the company leaning towards one side more than
the other, it is evident that side will most likely be the future of the company as well as the
industry. The F-type is still a relatively new car and any form of replacement will not be due for
another few years. But with the way the car industry is moving, it is evident that more green cars
are the way to go. Will Jaguar decide to go down the route of hybrid sports cars? It will be
interesting to see where the future of obnoxiously loud power making engines will go, especially
in the case of Jaguar since it has been there all throughout its history.
