The Pastors Corner

Incoming Pastors Announced April 27

FOurriends,
celebration of 85 years of worship
in our sanctuary yesterday is only the
beginning. We recently communicated
the appointment of Rev. Kendall
Waller as our Lead Pastor. That
was the initial message of transition for
our church. We have now completed
the process of adding special people
to our pastoral staff. The titles
expressed in this announcement are
new. They reflect the primary responsibility of each person.
Over time these titles may change as Rev. Waller and his staff
discern specific gifts that may present changes in individual
responsibilities.
Rev.Trista Soendker
Nicholson, Pastor
of Worship and
Leadership, joined the
staff at Missouri UMC in
2012 and has helped raise
up leaders in the college
age ministry through
her work as Pastor of
New Generations and
Spark Ministry. Prior to becoming a pastor, Trista worked for
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Congressman Ike Skelton, and
held other positions in the political arena. She also served
Capitol Hill Group Ministry, where she worked primarily
with homeless women seeking job placement and permanent
homes. We enjoy the gifts that Trista and her husband, Sean,
bring to the church, as well as the joy of watching their two
young sons, Abram and Judah, grow up.
Rev. Charity Goodwin-Rosario,
Pastor of Discipleship, comes to
us from St. Lukes UMC in Kansas
City where she currently serves
as Associate Pastor. She graduated
from the University of Missouri
with a degree in Journalism. After
serving as a newspaper reporter in
Des Moines, Iowa, she graduated
from the Saint Paul School of
Theology in Kansas City. She has
15 years of experience in pastoral duties in the Kansas City
area. She and her husband, Eli Rosario, have two sons, Gabriel
and Levi.

2 MISSOURI UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Rev. Kim Parker,

Pastor of New
Generations, will
join us from her
current position as the
Associate Pastor at
St. Matthews UMC in
Madison, Mississippi.
She is a graduate of the
University of Mississippi
and Asbury Theological
Seminary in Kentucky. She brings 20 years of experience from
Methodist churches in Mississippi, including extensive work
in college ministry. She will also be joining the staff of the
Missouri Conference half time, focusing on New Generations
ministry. She will be responsible for the college age and young
adult ministry started by Rev. Trista.
Rev. Hank Jenkins, Pastor of Youth
Ministries, joined the staff at Missouri
UMC in August 2012 and will continue
coordinating the Christian education
and discipleship for youth in grades 6-12
and their families. Hank has worked
in youth ministry for eight years and
served two churches in the Oklahoma
conference before moving to Columbia.
Hank has been married for 10 years to
his wife, Joy, who is currently pursuing
her PhD in journalism from Mizzou.
All of these people will be with us and our pastoral staff will
be complete by the end of June. We are eager for you to have
the opportunity to get acquainted with each of them, and we
are excited about the talents and experience they bring to our
church family.

June 9: Social Justice Book Club June 14: Summer Choir....

A new book club will begin
Youre Invited!
Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m.
in the MUMC Parlor. The purpose of
this book club is to raise awareness
of societal concerns by reading and
discussing nonfiction books relevant to
current social justice issues. We hope
this new book club will be a spark that
ignites us to become more aware of
current social justice concerns with a
Christian perspective. Meetings will be
held quarterly beginning with our first
book discussion of The New Jim Crow
by Michelle Alexander. It challenges the
conventional viewpoint that discrimination has mostly ended
since the civil rights movements of the 1960s and provides an
insightful perspective of recent events such as Ferguson and
similar cases. It will be available for order through the church
office. For more information, contact Anne GiffordRN, D.Ed.Min.,
at gifford1@mindspring.com, or Melissa Clarke at melisc53@aol.com.
