Norma Hotaling was a light and a leader who emerged from the darkest of places. Norma described how children are trafficked into prostitution and drug addiction. She founded the SAGE Project in 1992 to help other women facing the same ordeal.

I am asking for your help in establishing the Norma Hotaling
Anti-Trafficking Awards, so named to honor her two decades of work to abolish sex trafficking. It has been one year since she passed away. Norma was a light and a leader who emerged from the darkest of places – child sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and drug addiction – to become an inspiration to all who work to stop commercial sexual exploitation of women and children. Norma told her story in order to help people understand how children are trafficked into prostitution, and how women become trapped in a hopeless cycle of violence and exploitation. She described her entry into prostitution when she was a teenager, her heroin addiction, which numbed her against the prostitution, and again the prostitution, which fed her heroin habit. She detailed the series of violent pimps and traffickers who held her life hostage, from the time she was a child until she was in her mid-thirties when she was able to beat her drug addiction and leave prostitution behind. Norma founded the SAGE Project (Standing Against Global Exploitation) in 1992 to help other women who were facing the same ordeal. Her vision was to provide a place that would be a safe harbor for those hurt on the streets. Her earliest innovation was her street outreach, a comprehensive set of services for sexually exploited men and women, and exit strategies for those trapped in prostitution. She was also the first to realize that we needed to address the demand side of sex trafficking in order to stop it and she created a series of innovative projects aimed at men and boys. It is a tribute to Norma’s work that SAGE is still in operation today, co-directed by Allen Wilson and Francine Braae, and it is recognized as the premier survivor- centered service provider. Please help us create the Norma Hotaling Awards – one for innovative work in shelter and service providers and one for innovative work to curb demand. In this way we can honor and remember Norma and support and recognize the work of abolitionists here and around the world. Our plan is to find 1,000 people who will give $100 each. We have already raised $10,000 in small and medium size donations. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Please go to our website: www.globalcenturion.org/donate to donate directly to the campaign by pressing the Norma Hotaling donation button. Or, make your check out to Global Centurion, earmarked “Norma Hotaling” and send it to the address below.
