Who Do I Want To Become?
The man I am today, in many ways, will be the man I am in the future. The main
difference will be his sense of place. My wholeness will be achieved. The trials and tribulations
throughout my upbringing have strengthened and solidified my moral compass. I have always
encourage myself to grow, however not without assuring my beliefs and ideals match my plans.
Independence is a trait and value I express daily. My self-reliance and assurance when amidst the
thick of situations has helped me tremendously throughout my life. My goal of becoming
complete might sound like a simple one but it is very complex when examined.
Success and satisfaction, both of these can only achieve while focusing on the positives.
In nearly every situation I surround myself with genuinely happy individuals, personally I feed
off others energy. I hope to see myself with people such as my girlfriend. She cares about my
wellbeing, she is positive and down to earth. My friends and family will be both charismatic and
open during conversations and exchanges. Since the passing of my father in 2010, I hope to
make the most of my time with loved ones. Whether it be Thanksgiving dinner with family or a
simple phone call for their birthdays. I want to be involved in my familys lives. To me healthy
relationships with friends and family is main source of positive emotion. I develop motivation
from the feelings I get during the day, its a simple way to lead a healthy life.

Stemming from my personal life, I hope to also be whole professionally. I plan to be a
licensed systems engineer with a focus on engineering management. I envision an engineering
workplace, complete with colleagues all fulfilling their purpose and enjoying their positions. My
ideal job after college would be as a project manager, improving and innovating products for a
large company. I am currently working towards my systems engineering degree, with a
concentration in engineering management. I will be developing plans and oversee fellow
engineers, where my leadership and perspective wisdom will undoubtedly benefit me. I will user
my highly developed communication techniques to effectively orchestrate the project objective.
While my dream company is currently unknown, I think that in five years a new powerhouse
company may arise that peaks my interest.
Engagement, a word that means several things. I take engagement as having a full
commitment. Optimistically, Ill be fully engaged into a career involving project innovation and
quite literally be engaged to my girlfriend. I hope to reengage spiritually with my God through
prayer and church, a culture in which I ran from during adolescence. On a simplistic view, I see
myself with my buddies on the weekends, talking about sports, and having a few drinks at a
family cookout. My mother and brother will live within thirty minutes of my home, most likely
in Charlotte, and will get along great with my friends and fianc. I hope to keep them close
because I know I am a major part of their lives. A life full of new and unexpected adventures is
essentially what I envision. Honestly, I look to be satisfied and engaged with all my endeavors,
no matter if it be menial or crucial. My strength in social intelligence will surely help me interact
with several people in a variety of situations. I can meander myself through several
conversations with ease. It is a skill I developed early. However, with the discipline Ill learn in
college, being conscious of my audience, Ill grow exponentially within these next five years.

All of my future objectives are pivotally decided by the relationships I develop over the
next few years here at UNC-Charlotte. Ive learned that connections will make or break my
potential. Using my key character strength of Perspective Wisdom, the ability to be a trusted peer
is something I can identify with. The ability to act as an outlet and a source of wisdom is crucial
to my success, coinciding with my leadership and social intelligence, Ill have all the soft skills
to excel. My management and/or boss shall see me as a key player in the success of our projects.
I plan to work diligently and efficiently, while respectfully letting my overseers know of my
intentions for growth within the corporation. My team and I will have healthy and positive
relationships with the central passion for innovation. Outside of the office, my family and
friends, will as previously stated, be very content with the amount of interactions we have.
Lastly, my faith will be restored in the Lord Jesus Christ and that will be my most important
relationship.
Everyone has thoughts on their purpose in life. I have previously stated that I hope we all
have a purpose in life. Assurance is motivating. Ill find personal meaning in several ways, one
will be through the responsibility. Ill be granted authority and leadership amongst my
professional teams. Another will be through the impact I bring to my family and friends. Whether
it is a quick text or pulling them through a tough time. My ability to feel as if I achieve a purpose
through the little things, may seem strange, but it will drive and fuel me. Having a since of
internal peace once I reemerge in faith will give me another reason to keep contributing to my
life.
Throughout this essay Ive outlined several things I hope to achieve. Some are
quantifiable such as a career and being engaged, others arent so clear cut. Wholeness is a
concept Ive introduced and hope to incorporate into my life, being widespread and complete.

Most importantly I plan to graduate from UNC-Charlotte with a BS in Systems Engineering.
This degree will allow me to be a project leader at my dream job. Achievement to me is
overstated, I think the journey and the growth along the way is just as important. If you attain a
goal in a negative environment it isnt nearly as rewarding. Achievement is a great motivator but
to me shouldnt be all that is striven for. Wholeness through the use of the PERMA model is
greater than any one of its components can ever be separately.
