burden list

1. what can the producers and end users do to alleviate the burden on
our environment ?
Answer-Reusing the precious metals and plastics in old cell phones alone
instead of making or mining more of them would save as much energy as
flipping off the power to 24,000 US homes for an entire year. The typical
American household has 24 electronic devices and in 2009 the EPA
estimated that there is 2.37 million tons worth of electronics ready to be
disposed of. This would fill almost five football stadiums!
2. What does our government currently do to enforce this
In British Columbia, we have a company/organization called the EPRA,
Electronic Products Recycling Association British Columbia (EPRA BC) is a
not-for-profit organization established originally as ESABC in November
2006 in conjunction with Ministry approval of the ESABC Stewardship Plan
for handling End-of-Life Electronics. Industry through EPRA BC is
committed to providing British Columbians with efficient, convenient and
environmentally sound solutions for managing obligated end-of-life
electronics. And one item in my house that I pledge to take to a place like
this is my old laptop as it would be better off getting recycled there then at
the dump, not only economically but there would be less e-waste.
Find what our Municipality offers for electronics disposal. Where is it located. What is one item
at your house that you can pledge to take there rather than dump in a black plastic bag.
Incidentally, Canada invented the black plastic bag...shameful!
In mission the electronic disposal spot is the recycling depot
