HAPPY NEW YEAR

BUDGET 2016

Every day it is a privilege to serve the residents of Beacon

Hill-Cyrville. Over the past 5 years, together we have accomplished a lot for the ward. We have seen new arenas, community
improvements, business growth and in the coming years we will
see even more! Over the next few years we will see Light Rail
Transit (LRT) with two stations in Beacon Hill-Cyrville (Cyrville &
Blair), multiple community upgrades and Canadas 150th birthday in 2017. I am always humbled and honoured to serve you.

The budget was passed at City Council on December 9th, 2015. The 2016 budget sets out an
affordable financial plan that would allow the City of Ottawa to make progress on its priorities, to
live within its means, and to protect front-line services. The City of Ottawa continues to make
record investments in community priorities such as transit and active transportation, affordable
housing, and economic development. At the same time, City Council has directed staff to
undertake a multi-year review of efficiency measures in order to address structural financial
issues, create a more innovative organization, and to ensure the City is able to deliver on its
long-term priorities.

On behalf of the Tierney family, Happy New Year and hope to

see you at our Family Day event!

Budget 2016 outlines the City maintain a predictable tax revenue increase of 2% while
increasing other fees in line with long-range affordability plans and the cost of delivering services.
It also outlines several common-sense efficiency measures in order to address budget pressures.
Budget 2016 delivers on commitments to create a more affordable, caring, sustainable and
prosperous city that will benefit every community.

CLEANING THE
CAPITAL!
Interested in cleaning your neighbourhood and meeting new people?
Cleaning the Capital is a citywide
cleanup campaign that occurs in
the spring and fall of every year.
Residents come together as a
community and combine efforts
to make our city clean and green.
Participants who register their
cleanups during the campaigns
early bird registrations and/or submit
their on-line cleanup reports are
eligible to win prizes donated by the
campaigns generous sponsors.

FAMILY DAY

STREAMLINING POLICE
RECORDS CHECKS
This is something I raised in 2012 and good news volunteers this initiative is being implemented in 2016. If you are volunteering with your
childs hockey team, the Scouts or any other organization working with
vulnerable individuals, you have likely been asked to provide a Police
Background Check. For a minimal cost you can request one, but the current system requires people to attend a police station in person to make
the request, and then wait several weeks for the report to arrive. As part
of the Ottawa Police Service budget plan for 2016, investments have been
planned to improve online capabilities including an online Police Record
Check request. This technology will make it easier and more efficient for
volunteers to request background checks and get the reports in a more
timely fashion. Good news for all volunteers!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST &

FREE PUBLIC SKATING!
Grab your skates and bring your appetite! We will
also have visual displays present so you can view
some exciting community projects. Please join myself and local residents for a FREE pancake breakfast
and FREE public skating:

When: Monday, February 15th

Where: Earl Armstrong Arena 2020 Ogilvie Road

Time: 9.00am 11.00am

Sponsored by ENBRIDGE!

Please contact my office if you are

interested and we can assist with
registration: Tim.Tierney@ottawa.ca
or 613.580.2481.

COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENTS!
I am very happy to announce that Beacon Hill-Cyrville has a series of community
improvements and upgrades coming to the Ward!
Please visit TimTierneyOttawa.ca for more information.

Shefford Road Dog Park & Soccer Field

This fenced-in dog park and intermediate sized soccer field will begin construction in
2016. Parking, trees and landscaping will make this a great addition to our community.

Acres Park Play structure

This park will see the removal of the old wood structure and the new installation of
swings and accessible playground equipment.

Loyola Park Splash Pad

Scheduled to begin construction in 2016, this splash pad will service numerous
residents in the community as well as provide a great gathering area for families
and local community events.

Cyrville Road MUP (multi-use pathways)

The City of Ottawa will be upgrading the cycling and pedestrian facilities on Cyrville
Road from Meadowbrook Road to Ogilvie Road. New buffered bike lanes, multi-use
pathways (MUP) and bicycle crossings will provide a continuous cycling route along
this section of Cyrville Road.

To name a few

WHERE IS MY PLOW?
There is a new tool on Ottawa.ca this winter that
will help Ottawa residents know when a City
plow will clear their snow-covered residential
street called Where Is My Plow. The web tool
allows you to enter your home address and find
the estimated time when your residential street
will be plowed during a major storm. Times are
estimated using real-time GPS information from
the snow plow fleet. The tool will work on any

phone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. Residents can use the information from
Where Is My Plow to help plan their driveway
snow removal efforts and as a reminder to move
their cars off the road when plows are passing.
The tool provides timelines for residential streets
only and does not provide information for arterial,
collector roads or sidewalks.

NEWSLETTER AND E-NEWSLETTER CONTEST!

During the fall 2015, I normally would have issued a physical newsletter such as this one. Due to the federal election that was taking place, I did not want to overload
residents with additional communications from my office. Moving forward, I will be back to 3-4 newsletters per year as usual. Register your email on my website,
TimTierneyOttawa.ca, and be entered for a chance to win a gift card to Caseys Grill & Bar in Beacon Hill-Cyrville!
