BUDGET 2016
The budget was passed at City Council on December 9th, 2015. The 2016 budget sets out an
affordable financial plan that would allow the City of Ottawa to make progress on its priorities, to
live within its means, and to protect front-line services. The City of Ottawa continues to make
record investments in community priorities such as transit and active transportation, affordable
housing, and economic development. At the same time, City Council has directed staff to
undertake a multi-year review of efficiency measures in order to address structural financial
issues, create a more innovative organization, and to ensure the City is able to deliver on its
long-term priorities.
Budget 2016 outlines the City maintain a predictable tax revenue increase of 2% while
increasing other fees in line with long-range affordability plans and the cost of delivering services.
It also outlines several common-sense efficiency measures in order to address budget pressures.
Budget 2016 delivers on commitments to create a more affordable, caring, sustainable and
prosperous city that will benefit every community.

2017 IDEAS?!
As we prepare for Canada's 150th birthday in 2017, Ottawa2017, the group responsible for organizing
and promoting the big year, announced funding opportunities for communities. I want to hear from you
on what you think would be a great community event in 2017.
Please contact my office with your ideas: Tim.Tierney@ottawa.ca / 613.580.2481.
BUSINESS BREAKFAST
COMMUNITY BUILDERS
I wanted to personally thank and acknowledge the following people and establishments for their
business leadership in the community. Roy Bartlett from Caseys Grill & Bar assisted with the 31st
annual OC Transpo food drive. Moe Taraboulsi from East Side Marios organized a spaghetti fundraiser for a local elementary school. Finally, Big Rig Brewery hosted Paints & Pints which benefitted
the local food bank; Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard. Please be sure to thank them if you visit
their establishments.
CLEANING THE
CAPITAL!
Interested in cleaning your neighbourhood and meeting new people?
Cleaning the Capital is a citywide
cleanup campaign that occurs in
the spring and fall of every year.
Residents come together as a
community and combine efforts
to make our city clean and green.
Participants who register their
cleanups during the campaigns
early bird registrations and/or submit
their on-line cleanup reports are
eligible to win prizes donated by the
campaigns generous sponsors.
FAMILY DAY
STREAMLINING POLICE
RECORDS CHECKS
This is something I raised in 2012 and good news volunteers this initiative is being implemented in 2016. If you are volunteering with your
childs hockey team, the Scouts or any other organization working with
vulnerable individuals, you have likely been asked to provide a Police
Background Check. For a minimal cost you can request one, but the current system requires people to attend a police station in person to make
the request, and then wait several weeks for the report to arrive. As part
of the Ottawa Police Service budget plan for 2016, investments have been
planned to improve online capabilities including an online Police Record
Check request. This technology will make it easier and more efficient for
volunteers to request background checks and get the reports in a more
timely fashion. Good news for all volunteers!

Ottawa and the Ottawa Senators Foundation as part of the Foundations

To name a few
WHERE IS MY PLOW?
There is a new tool on Ottawa.ca this winter that
will help Ottawa residents know when a City
plow will clear their snow-covered residential
street called Where Is My Plow. The web tool
allows you to enter your home address and find
the estimated time when your residential street
will be plowed during a major storm. Times are
estimated using real-time GPS information from
the snow plow fleet. The tool will work on any
phone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. Residents can use the information from
Where Is My Plow to help plan their driveway
snow removal efforts and as a reminder to move
their cars off the road when plows are passing.
The tool provides timelines for residential streets
only and does not provide information for arterial,
collector roads or sidewalks.
