SIP
HiPath OpenScape is a Session Initiation
Protocol (SIP)-based collaboration and personal productivity application suite that delivers on the promise of IP-convergence by
enabling compelling productivity improvements through a unified user experience of
enterprise communications for information
workers (iWorkers) a concept Siemens
calls 2gIP.
Designed as an IT application, HiPath OpenScape fits into an enterprises existing voice
and data infrastructure and ties together
phones, video, voice mail, email, text-messaging, directories, calendaring, instant
messaging, and conferencing services. It
provides an interface to manage online
presence-based communication and collaboration services and provides a platform to
integrate these services into existing business processes and applications to drive
productivity gains. HiPath OpenScape
makes it easier for users -- regardless of
whether they are in the office, at home, or
on the road -- to access the people and the
information they need.
A few examples:
A user can set her preferences for various communications media, specify
which people she will take calls from and
how they can reach her. For example, if
shes out of the office for the afternoon,
she can have all incoming calls between
noon and 5:00 p.m. routed to her assistant. But when a special customer calls
her office phone, that customer can be
routed to a self-service center where the
SOAP
customer can retrieve a document and
request an appointment with the HiPath
OpenScape user.

Although presence-based communications
first gained popularity within the context of
instant messaging, Siemens believes that
users will see even greater benefits when
this powerful communication paradigm is
applied across all modes of communication.
HiPath OpenScape meets the needs of enterprise users by providing the following
complementary features:
Enterprise-grade user presence status
definitions (e.g. In Office, Working Remotely, On Vacation, etc.)
Intuitive web portal design of user
interface
HiPath OpenScape adds value to any existing PBX infrastructure. There is no need to
overhaul the existing enterprise telephony
infrastructure. Through its powerful design
concept of associated devices, HiPath
OpenScape extends many benefits of the
presence-based communication paradigm
to non-SIP devices, including PBX phones,
mobile phones, and all other telephony devices. All that is required is a SIP gateway
between HiPath OpenScape and the existing telephony network.

communication-routing algorithms by a variety of factors, including caller priority level, current status, available devices and
media, and time-of-day/day-of-week
Sample Rules
Here are a couple of examples that show
practical applications of the HiPath OpenScape Rules based on presence status information:
When my status is Working Remotely:
Route all incoming voice calls from
team members and my manager during work hours to my home phone
first and if that fails, to my cell phone.
Route all other calls to my Self-Service
Portal.
When my status is On Business Trip:
Route all incoming voice calls from certain
team members and my manager (excluding
late hours) directly to my cell phone; all others route to my Self-Service Portal.
Voice Portal
Self-Service Portal
The Self-Service Portal allows guests calling
into the system to help themselves to information that the user has made available.
Each user controls access to his or her own
Self-Service Portal by creating custom
greeting web pages that are rendered into
