DESCRIPTION
NAME OF THE PACKAGE:
Renovation and Modernisation of Excitation System Stage II with DVR
SPECIFIC AREA OF THE PROBLEM:
Unit# 4, 5 & 6 provided with BHEL Supplied Excitation system. This
system becomes obsolete. No spare supports are available.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM:
BHEL supplied Thyrism4 excitation system is used. All system viz Field
Breaker control, PSS cards, control cards etc becomes obsolete.
THE EFFECT OF THE PROBLEM ON PLANT OPERATION AND
PERFORMANCE:
In case of failure of any card unit availability will effect and results in loss
of generation.

REPORTS, TRIP ANALYSIS COMMITTEE REPORTS,
ENERGY AUDIT REPORTS, KNOWLEDGE TEAM STUDY
REPORTS, ROPR / RMC OBSERVATIONS ETC AS MAY BE
APPLICABLE:
Discussed in knowledge Team meet. CC-OS suggested to retrofit
this system with Digital Voltage Regulator with complete system
replacement.
FEASIBLE ENGINEERING SOLUTION:
Renovation of existing system with DVR. BHEL, ABB, Siemens and GE
has developed such DVR which is operating successfully. In our Korba
station we have BHEL supplied DVR in U#2,3 and 7. in Unit#1 we have
ABB supplied DVR.
