David Copperfield
Reflection Chapter 5 & 6

This 2 chapters tell about David when he was seventeen. He met

his old friends, Steerforth and invited him to visit his mothers old
servant, Pegotty. The next day he took Steerforth with him to visit
Daniel Peggotty. For the next two weeks David was often with Peggotty
and Barkis, while Steerforth went sailing or fishing with Daniel and
Ham. Finally they returned to London. David decided to become a
lawyer and his aunt asked him to go Mr. Spenlow who was a partner in
an important law firm. He had his own home, but he felt so lonely.
David invited Steerforth to have a dinner with some foods, smokes and
wines, until they became unusually talkative. David met Agnes when he
was in theater, and Agnes asked him to visit her house where she was
staying. She told him that Uriah Heeps going to be fathers partner. A
year had passed, Mr. Spenlow invited David to his house and introduced
his daughter, Dora to David. A few days later Steerforth came to
Davids room and told that Mr. Barkis will die soon. David went to
Yarmouth and saw Barkis was lying unconscious. Finally Barkis breathed
for the last time. After the funeral, Ham called David to go outside. He
said that Emily was run away. Daniel was going to find Emily in London,
and all of the world if necessary.
I do agree to this statement, If anything happens to me, if I
dont come back, tell her I forgive her tell her my love for her is
unchanged. I like this statement, because it showed that Daniel really
loved Emily as his nephew. He did not care about his safety again,
whether he would die or he would get any accidents when he was
trying to find Emily. The important thing for him was only to bring Emily
back.
Regarding to the theory that I know, we may not judge someone
only by the cover. Sometimes, a person looks good from outside only,
but inversely inside. We often judge the people from outside only, we
do not know whether their hearts are good or not. Like what David did,
he judged Steerforth only from his cover. He did not know that actually
Steerforth was not good as he thought.
This 2 chapters made my feeling curious. What actually
something that will happen to David, why Barkis suddenly was getting
ill, and what was the reason Steerforth brought Emily far away from her
family. There are many problems in these 2 chapters that have not
been solved yet.
I cant wait what will happen to Daniel in the next chapter. I think
he will die because of an accident. I also can not wait to know who will
become Davids girlfriend. I think his girlfriend will be Dora, because

Moral values that we got from these 2 chapters :
Do not judge someone by the cover, because the one that is good outside
doesnt mean good inside. Like Steereforth, he was good from outside, but in the
fact he was worse inside.
