T he children at our center were blessed with soccer

goals for their soccer field. They love playing soccer

and will play it day and night if they can. And now
that they can kick goals it’s even harder to get them away
from the field.
W
e cross paths with numerous people in our lifetimes that make an impact on us. This month I want to introduce you
to two of our residents:

N orman was born on 13 December 1922 and has been a resident at the center since 13
December 2002. Norman is one of 10 children. His brothers and sisters have all passed
away. In the year that I have know Norman I can honestly say that we can all learn
something from this man. Not only is he the oldest resident in the Ministry at present, but also the
most willing. He still does everything for himself i.e. showering, cleans his room, walks to town and
back, does his own shopping. Many of us younger ones can take a leaf out of his book. Some time
ago he was doing security work at our main gate. His knees for some reason started swelling and I
suggested he stopped helping at the gate. Well, as was to be expected, he refused to stop helping at
the gate, as he didn't want to go sit in his room and die. Norman has not been on a holiday since he
came here in 2002.

Every morning one can hear Norman sing his hymns and not a day passes without him telling you how blessed he really is. He truly is an
inspiration for most of us in the Ministry.

A untie Mercia, as she is affectionately known in the Ministry, is the oldest female
resident. She was born on 10 January 1927. She took up residence in Eden on 05
February 1999. Today auntie Mercia is one of our stalwarts when it comes to the
processing of vegetables that are donated to the Ministry. She is always the first one there
and the last one to leave. If there is one thing we learned from auntie Mercia it is that she
never complains. This lady partakes in all activities in the Ministry, works with her own
pocket money and does her own shopping.

Auntie Mercia is one of the fortunate residents that visit her family once a year. She has a
brother in Port Elizabeth and every year as her birthday present she gets to spend a month
with her brother.

They truly are an inspiration for most of us in the Ministry and we want to thank them for
their unselfish love and dedication to the Ministry.

E veryday there are various people and organizations involved in the Ministry, each one
making a difference in the lives of so many people who are left destitute because of a number of circumstances. We want to say
thank you to Boelie & Marie Griesel of Oppiekoppie Boerdery. Thank you for giving so unselfishly of yourselves and we pray that

God continues
blessing you. The
vegetables that you
donate to the
ministry are feeding
hundreds at present.
