PARENTS

AS

PARTNERS
ASSIGNMENTS
Students will be given ample notice of assignments and
enough time to complete them. Assignments will be
clearly explained and will focus on reinforcing
previously learned knowledge and consolidation of
prior learning. New information will not be taught
using assignments or homework, as students are not
alone in their education and will not be expected to
learn completely independently.

Parents are vital to each childs education. They offer support

outside of school, influence their childs attitude regarding
learning, and they improve schools as a place to learn and
grow. By being involved in school activities, engaging in
communication with the school and the teacher, and being
present in the community, parents will be an integral part of
their childs life at school and at home. Parents will be
apprised of their childs strengths and needs, and this will be
done through report cards, assessments, homework and
progress reports.

ASSESSMENTS
Students are assigned grades throughout the school year as
the goal is to identify how student learning has progressed
throughout the school year. Assessments are completed both
independently and collaboratively, and will be planned
thoroughly in advance. Students are taught how to assess
themselves and how assessment is used for learning and as
learning, while the teacher also uses assessment of learning.
Parents will be informed of student assessments via Google
classroom, newsletters and agendas, as well as through
information passed along via their own child. Assessment
outlines are to be sent home at the start of an assignment, or
prior to major tests or end of year.

SUPPORTING YOUR
CHILD AT HOME

Google Classroom
Google Classroom will be a method through which parents
have access to student homework, assignments and classroom
resources. Students and parents are also able to ask the teacher
questions or seek clarification through the Google Classroom.
