Task Analysis: Prezi

Task Analysis
The task analysis was completed using a procedural analysis as my instructional goals all relate
to actions that need to be taken in regards to utilizing the Prezi website. I chose to use a
procedural analysis because it enables me to identify all of the steps needed to complete the
task of familiarizing others with the capabilities of the Prezi website as a procedural analysis
requires all steps be identified for learning.

Open Firefox

To access the Prezi website, you will to open

your web browser and type prezi.com in the
address bar.

Opening of Prezi Website

Once the website loads, click on the Login.

On the Log in screen, click on Sign up.

While there are paid options available through

Prezi, the Public (and free) option has met all of
the needs I have had when creating
presentations. With all of the flexibility and
creativity allowed in the free edition, I can only
imagine what the paid options are like!
Click on CONTINUE FREE.

Here you can enter your information to sign up

for your free Prezi account. When finished, click
on Create your free Public account.

At this point, Prezi will automatically take you to a

brief tutorial showing how to create a Prezi and
explaining what a Prezi is. Depending on where
you stop during the tutorial, you may end up with
different options. Most seem to lead to what
matters - Create a new prezi.
Click on that button to begin.

10

Click on the New Prezi icon, and choose your

template. As you can see, many template
options are available. You may choose one to fit
the subject of what you are presenting or choose
one that you feel is visually captivating. Choose
a template by clicking on it, and then clicking on
Use template to get started.

I find the best thing to begin with when working

on a Prezi is to give it a title. Click CLICK TO
ADD TITLE, and add your text. You only have to
begin typing to enter your text to the
presentation.
To begin working on the slides to be included in
your Prezi, use the navigation bar on the left side
of your screen. These slides are numbered in the
order they will appear in your Prezi.

11

When adding text to your Prezi, you simply click

where it says Click to add text and begin typing.
Easy enough, right? To edit the formatting of
your text, use the toolbar that appears above the
text box.

12

To insert an image into your Prezi from your

computer, click on Insert, Image, and Select
files. A dialog box will appear which allows
you to select files from your computer. After you
have found the file you want to use, click Open.

13

To insert a YouTube video into your Prezi, you will

follow a similar process. Again, click on Insert.
However, this time you will click on YouTube
video and paste the link for your YouTube
video into the box that says Paste YouTube
link. Click Insert. You can adjust your video
within your Prezi in primarily two ways. You can
drag it where you want it in your presentation by
clicking on the hand that appears when you
hover over the video and moving it accordingly.
You can also resize the video by clicking on the
squares that appear in the corners around the
video.
(Who doesnt love Adele, right?)
Something to keep in mind when inserting
YouTube videos is that once they begin to play, it
will not stop automatically even though you
continue to click through your presentation. You
must manually stop it.

14

Finally, we will look at inserting a PDF or video

file from your computer. With this option, you
have endless possibilities but must take into
consideration that large files may take a very long
time to load properly.
To insert a file from your computer, again click
Insert. Then select From file (PDF, video).
This will open another dialog box from which you
can select a file from your computer. Once you
locate the file, click Open.

15

16

Once you have completed your Prezi (or while

you are working on it), I recommend you save
your presentation. While it often saves
automatically, I recommend saving it manually
just in case. To do this, you simply click on the
disk located in the upper left portion of your
screen.
To show off all of your hard work, you will
present your Prezi. Click on Present which is
located in the upper right portion of the screen.
Once in presentation mode, you can navigate
through your Prezi using the arrows located at
the bottom of the screen. To exit your
presentation, you can click through all of the
slides or press the Escape key on your
keyboard.
