-----------------------------------------------------------------* WHAT'S NEW?
Version 3.1:
Edit Period Performance Data: Change resources' actual and earned quantity
and cost values that are saved when you run Store Period Performance. You
can view the new values in reports, graphics, Resources window, and
Resource/Cost Profile or Table.
All previous P3 3.0 service packs (SP1-SP3) have been incorporated into this rel
ease.
Version 3.0:
Period Performance Data: Store periodic actuals and earned value
per resource assignment to facilitate accurate reporting and
display a resource assignment's true actual cost and quantity spread
and earned value from the start of the resource assignment to the
data date or actual finish.
Automatic Scheduling and Leveling: Have P3 automatically schedule
or level projects whenever you change data that affects calculated
schedule or level dates.
Progress Spotlight and Update Progress: Visually identify which
activities were scheduled in the current update period and
automatically status their progress if they are on schedule.
Customizable Header and Footer: Select the information to include
in the header and footer, including project dates, the bar chart
legend, project titles, and multiple revision boxes and logos.
You can also specify the size, position, and font of each header
and footer section.
Project Codes: Define project codes in the project group and assign
them to member projects so you can organize and filter projects

by project code.
Resource Assignments: Assign the same resource to multiple
activities in one step.
Bar Chart Customization: Customize the appearance of the data
date line, display the new target progress line, and format
individual bars in the Bar chart to get more information at a
glance.
Activity Columns: Display multiple predecessors, successors, cost
accounts, or resources in one column cell. Group data items into
one band for each combination of values.
PERT: Use the new timescaled PERT to arrange activities by
early start or actual start. You can also expand PERT by
inserting rows and columns.
InfoMaker: Use P3's new custom report writer to modify and format
existing P3 reports, or create new reports using your project data
from P3. See "Creating P3 Reports with InfoMaker" in the P3
Reference manual for more details.
Primavera Post Office: Display an Expected Finish constraint
column on the Status Sheet so team members can see when work
is expected to finish. Use the Print command to print the
Status Sheet.
Saving Layouts as Web Pages: To facilitate communicating project
data within a company with offices local or worldwide, you can
create layouts in P3 and save them in HTML format using the
Primavera Web Publishing Wizard and then place them on a central
server--your office network or the Internet.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* UPGRADE INSTALLATIONS AND RUNNING WORKSTATION SETUP
Workstation setup should be run on all the clients after the network
install is upgraded to P3 3.1 to prevent potential registration errors
or Btrieve configuration errors.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* WINDOWS NT & 2000 SETUPS
To install P3 under a Windows NT or 2000 Operating System, a local
Administrator account is required with Change permissions (NTFS drives)
to the default WINNT folder. This allows P3 Setup to write to the Registry
and WINNT folder.
To Run, P3 requires Change permissions to the default WINNT folder and
the P3WORK, PROJECTS and P3OUT folders. P3 also requires Full Control
permissions to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Btrieve Technologies Key
in the Registry (REGEDT32).
Windows NT, 2000 users should be members of the Power User or Standard User
group with the above permissions. If you attempt to open P3 and you do not
have sufficient permissions, an error message will generate, and P3 will not ope
n.
------------------------------------------------------------------

* BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY AND RESOURCE/COST LOADING REPORTS

Resource/Cost Loading Reports saved to a CSV (comma-separated values)
file are incompatible with P3 2.0b. If you save a resource/cost
loading report to a CSV file in P3 3.1, you cannot use the report in
P3 2.0b.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY AND PROJECT CODES
If you implement project codes in your P3 3.1 project(s) and then open
those projects in P3 2.0b, the project codes will appear in the Aliases
dialog box in P3 2.0b. To prevent this, locate the file, P3SRVR.DLL,
in the \Support\P320b directory on the P3 3.1 CD. Copy this file into the
P3 2.0b Progloc location.
NOTE: This file is to upgrade the P3 2.0b installation, not the P3 3.0
or P3 3.1 installation.
If you have any questions, please contact Customer Support.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* DATABASE SERVER VERSION
If you have 10 or more LAN users running P3 concurrently, we recommend
using the server version of Pervasive.SQL 2000 to improve performance and
maintain data integrity in installations with multiple users actively
accessing information from within the same project. Contact Primavera
Sales at 1-610-949-6825 or info@primavera.com for purchasing information,
or Customer Support at the numbers noted below if you have technical
questions about using Pervasive.SQL servers with P3 3.0 or P3 3.1.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* INFOMAKER VERSION AND USING EXPEDITION WITH P3
The sample reports created in InfoMaker for P3 were created with
InfoMaker version 6.5. You can open/run the reports with either InfoMaker
6.5 or 7.x versions of InfoMaker. The reports are not compatible with
earlier versions of InfoMaker. Depending on your version of Expedition,
you may have a version of InfoMaker other than 6.5. Do not open/run the
Expedition PBL library files with any version of InfoMaker other than
the version installed with Expedition.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* USING Pervasive.SQL 2000 SERVER ENGINE
If P3 clients are accessing Shared P3 projects off the LAN under
a Pervasive.SQL 2000 Server configuration, you will not be able to access
those same p3 projects simultaneously from P3 clients running the default P3
installation of Local Btrieve Workstation Engine v6.15 (W32MKDE).
All P3 clients must be configured with the Pervasive.SQL 2000 client before acce
ssing
Shared Projects. Once Pervasive.SQL 2000 client is installed, the local
Btrieve workstation Engine will only be used to access the PC's Local P3 files.
Any P3 files accessed off the LAN will go thru Pervasive.SQL 2000 Server.
A mix of Btrieve versions may also result in P3 not loading correctly if
the application is running from a shared directory. Please note that P3 Setup
will not replace newer versions of Btrieve files detected on your system.

If you are using Pervasive.SQL 2000 Server, you will need to

download the Pervasive.SQL 2000 Configuration for P3 for Windows
Technical document off the Technical Support Knowledge Base at www.primavera.com
.

-----------------------------------------------------------------* BTRIEVE PROJECT CONVERSION
P3 3.1 runs under Btrieve Database Manager version 6.15
and, by default, requires all project files to be in Btrieve
version 6.x format.

When you open a project created with a previous version of

Btrieve, such as projects created with P3 version 1.1 or earlier,
P3 displays a message box that asks if you want to convert the
project to Btrieve version 6.15.
- Click Yes to have P3 automatically convert your projects
to Btrieve version 6.15.
- Click No if you or other P3 users will need to access this
project using P3 version 1.1 or earlier, SureTrak, Parade,
or Expedition. These Primavera products run under an earlier
version of Btrieve, which cannot open Btrieve 6.15 project
files. Call Primavera Customer Support for instructions
on maintaining compatibility between P3 3.1 and
other Primavera products.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* MISCELLANEOUS
If you would like to install and use the Primavera Plotter
Driver, refer to the P3PLOT.TXT file in the \Support\Prmplot folder
on the P3 3.1 CD. This driver is for Win95/98/3.x only.
-----------------------------------------------------------------* KNOWN ISSUES
NT ( -13) or (-3) Error: During installation, some systems may report a problem
with the Crypkey License service update. Most often setup will report this as
either a -3 or -13 error and refer you to this readme.txt file. This error is
generally an indication that setup was unable to update a service related file.
If you experienced this error during setup, please follow the steps
below to correct the problem:
- Please reboot your computer if you haven't rebooted since your install error.
- Click Start/Settings/Control Panel.
- Double-click the Services icon.
- Select the Crypkey License service.
- Click the Stop button.
- Close the services dialog and the control panel window.
- Select Start/Run.
- Browse to C:\WINNT\P3\setupex.exe and click Open.
- Once back in the Run box, click the Run button.
- The system will not appear to do anything but you will receive a message
to reboot the system. After rebooting, you should be able to run P3.
Installing or Upgrading for Citrix: If you use Citrix Metaframe, you may experie
nce
an error when opening P3 after install or upgrading. Please contact Customer
Support for the required files to correct this problem.
Webster for Primavera users: We recommend that you close
any project before making a copy of it. If you delete
activities or resources in a P3 project and then copy that
project while it is still open, you may lose historical data
in Webster for the deleted activities or resources.
