Webinar - What Impact Will the New Health Care Law Have on
Construction Employers?

Save the Date: May 6, 2010 at 1:00 ET

Free for AGC Members, this AGC webinar will detail the recently enacted health care bill and the sweeping
changes to the delivery of health care in the United States. Focusing on the impact on employers in the construction
industry as well as their responsibilities and requirements to offer health care benefits to their employees, AGC has
partnered with a prestigious law firm experienced in this matter to analyze the impact of the bill on construction em-
ployers and suggest preparations that employers should begin implementing to comply with the new law.

Plus, AGC’s chief economist, Ken Simonson, will close out the event with a preview of the impact the legislation will
have on the demand for future health care construction.

The webinar will cover the following:

· new employer responsibility requirements
· new insurance reforms

Industry Day at Virginia Tech

On Tuesday, April 6, the Myers-Lawson School of Construction
held its 2nd annual Industry Day on the grounds of Virginia
Tech. AGC of Virginia participated with a booth and answered
questions of students already in the program and those con-
templating entering. Those stopping by the booth ranged from
freshmen to those getting ready to graduate this May. One
student had a resume ready to share and had interned with a
Valley District G.C. member in the past. A sincere appreciation
goes to the Roanoke District members who volunteered their
time, including Roy Caldwell with A.H. Harris & Sons, Aaron
Long with Procon, Inc., Sam Lionberger, III with Lionberger
Construction, and Curtis Witt with F.A.C.T., Inc.

Roanoke District Breakfast Meeting

Roanoke District has had several enlightening breakfast meetings this year. On
March 30, the Safety Alliance sponsored a meeting with Roanoke member company
Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore as speaker. The subject of the meeting, presented
by Brett Marston, addressed, “When VOSH Comes Knocking”, which discussed
strategies for responding to OSHA inspections and citations. The talk raised many
eyebrows in the crowded room. It proved to be a valuable subject and information to
share with the Roanoke members as well as those who came from different districts.
Many thanks to Brett and Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore!
On March 31, another breakfast meeting in Roanoke addressed S.W.A.M. Mr. Mark
Cartwright, Supplier Diversity Manager for Virginia Tech, was the speaker for this
meeting. Mark discussed current guidelines necessary to follow while dealing with
the subject.

Richmond District LEED AP Credential

The James River Green Building Council and the AGCVA- Richmond District partnered up to
bring a seminar describing how to get and maintain your LEED AP credential. The presentation
provided a step-by-step guide to earning your accreditation, maintaining it through continuing
education and resources. Fifty people attended the seminar. The event was so successful that
the groups will team up again and repeat the seminar.

Piedmont District Volunteering at the Charlottesville Pavilion

On May 7th the AGCVA Piedmont District will be volunteering at the Charlottesville Pa-
vilion pouring beer for concert goers while raising funds for the Building Goodness Foun-
dation (BGF). BGF is an organization powered by skilled volunteers from the construction
trades and our community. They build clinics, schools, shelters, and other structures for
communities in need. BGF also builds for our local community in Charlottesville, VA, for
impoverished and disaster-stricken areas such as the Gulf Coast, and in developing
countries like Haiti and Honduras. On May 7th The Skip Castro Band will be playing. We
need 10 to 15 volunteers to be ready between 4:30 and 4:45. It is a great way to
spend an evening - listening to great music while raising money for a very worthwhile
charity. To find out more about the musical artist or Building Goodness Foundation
please visit the below links.
