Donor Essay Profile

What is your most memorable childhood experience?

I had a lot of heroes growing up and I liked to imitate them. My mom used to ask
me "Who are you?" and I would reply "I'm Batman". My mom also videotaped me
lip-syncing to Michael Jackson's Bad album when I was about 5. My parents loved
that tape, but I was really embarrassed by it. Eventually I taped over it.

What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?

I'm actually quite the loner of my family. I love my family to death and they are so
amazing and supportive of me, but I definitely have made a different life for myself
than they have themselves. I sort of enjoy the excitement and chaos of living and
am willing to let life take me anywhere and see what I can make of it. My mom
would say I am my father's son, because he has influenced me a great deal with his
love for music, but my mom has always been there when I needed her as well.

What character traits do you admire in an individual?

I admire people who think for themselves and are willing to get lost before they find
who they really are. I also admire people who try to be kind to everyone and are
open to new people and experiences.

What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?

I am known for doing very powerful, heartfelt karaoke performances of "Born to

Run" by Bruce Springsteen.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?

I'd really love to see Africa. I would like to see a culture that is completely different
from mine and learn their own theories on life and find new experiences. I would
also love to go on an endless roadtrip and just drive and find new, hidden things.

When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?

I would like them to live their own lives as I have. I realize family is not something
you can choose, and I would love to support my children in anyway possible while
also giving them their independence. I would also love to pass on my interests in art
and more thoughtful tastes in music, movies, etc.

Things I liked about this donor:

 Loved the description of “shaggy hair” – so my type!
 I absolutely adore that he is musical. That is for sure a quality I was hoping
for.
 I thought it was too cute that he made mix CD’s for the staff.

Things I don’t like about this donor:

 I listened to his voice recording too, and – he kind of sounded like an idiot.
Again, I hate to say that. I wish I had never listened to either of the voice
recordings – they each definitely gave me a negative impression.
 His CMV positive status.
