Overseas Absentee Voting Period and Schedule


for 2010 National Elections in the Consulate
In connection with the forthcoming 2010 Philippine National Elections in May this
year, the Philippine Consulate General announces that in accordance with the Overseas
Absentee Voting Act of 2003 (Republic Act No. 9189) and its relevant implementing
Commission on Elections (COMELEC) resolutions, the casting of votes of duly-
registered overseas Filipino voters in Jeddah and the Western Region will start on 10
April (Saturday) and will last until 10 May (Monday). Those who are in the certified list
of overseas absentee voters (CLOAV) could come during the period and vote in
accordance with the following daily schedule: 10 April only – 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.;
11 April to 09 May – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and 10 May – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The voting process will be conducted in the premises of the Consulate General
under the auspices of Special Boards of Election Inspectors (SBEIs), constituted by
authority of the COMELEC.

As earlier announced by the Consulate, per clarification made by the COMELEC,


“it is not mandatory for an overseas absentee voter to present his/her voter’s ID when
voting x x x. He/she should, however, be in the certified list of overseas absentee
voters (CLOAV) and must present secondary identification document” bearing his
photograph and signature, when required.

To significantly increase voter turn-out in this year’s national elections, Consul


General Ezzedin H. Tago urges all registered overseas absentee voters in the
Consulate’s area of responsibility “to avail of this opportunity to exercise your right of
suffrage abroad, if only to show your love for the Philippines’ democratic way of life.”
