A meeting of the General Managers was held at the Toronto Airport Marriott in Toronto,
Ontario on November 9, 2010 The meeting convened at 9 a.m. on November 9, and Colin

Mayo Clinic Concussion Conference

Mr. Campbell stated that the Mayo Clinic had hosted a concussion conference recently, noting
that the League had not formally participated.
Julie Grand explained that the conference had been a two day summit and that, while the
League had not formally participated, the chairman of the League's Concussion Working Group
Dr. Ruben Echemendia, and several NHL team physicians, and others from the hockey world,
had been in attendance. Ms. Grand stated that there had been three principal conclusions
reached by those at the summit: 1) that there should be an increased emphasis on education at
all levels of the game; 2) that it was important to diagnose concussions and not to allow players
to return to play until they were cleared; and 3) that all head hits and fighting should be
eliminated from hockey. Ms. Grand remarked that the conference was organized by an
aggressive group of medical practicioners and felt that it may be worthwhile to continue a
dialogue with the group moving forward.
