Most of these designs are suitable for graphic designers. Using a clean, simple font
may not make your CV the prettiest out there, but it will make it more readable and
less likely to be rejected.

#15 is probably the best balance. Its attractive and unusual enough to be
noticeable without being obnoxious or hard to read. (Although the quote under her
name is enough to toss her resume.) Also as an FYI for anyone applying in the US,
posting your birthdate or photo is a huge no-no. Many HR people will toss resumes
including those immediately to avoid having to deal with age and racial
discrimination issues. (It doesnt add any useful information and its awkward for
everyone.)

graphic designer. BUT how do you make your CV to stand out from these 1000 of

I have three degrees and two years of experience, but I dont have a job.

No. I build teams of specialists for a living, and therefore have to see resumes and
CVs, judge them, read them, and eventually get that person hired. If someone sent
me anything like this, yes it would get my attention, but not in a good way. It would
make me think that this person is all fluff - just trying to get attention but that they
dont have any substance, or any experience, but that they tried to pull the wool
over my eyes or divert attention away from that with their flashy resume. Look at
these resumes. There is like NO experience on them, but they are just trying to
distract the reader with fancy fonts and designs. If someone had ACTUAL
experience, they wouldnt want stupid hipster photos or ten inch header designs
wasting space. They would get to the point.

I interview people and help edit resumes on a daily basis and this is NOT what
employers want to see!!! We want to see clean, crisp, very detailed resumes for the
most part. This is because we do not have time to waste coordinating and
interviewing candidates without the skill set needed. A lot of managers literally ctrl

I thought I was so clever and cute when I put my picture into a revised resume
template that I was going to bring with me to a job fair. Until I researched that its
actually ILLEGAL for an employer to hire someone based on their looks, and
resumes with pictures can be used against them if someone chooses to get bitter
over who ended up getting a position, so they usually end up throwing them away.
One thing I think I would suggest that isnt on these is including the logos or
insignias of the companies youve interned with. Even if they arent big name
companies, if they have a logo, theyre legit and add graphic interest to a resume
while sharing information at the same time.

Plus, if its too junky and hard to read, youll get passed over. I can tell you from
experience that basically 99% of all hiring managers will scan your resume - if
they cant find what theyre looking for within a few seconds, your resume will

Just wow. You office managers sure are cantankerous and way too disgruntled
over someones decision to not utilize the standard collection of 1999 MS Office
resume templates youve been accustomed to reviewing. While you dont have the
time to scroll through a creative and cutesy resume to search for the relevant
information, you apparently DO have the time (on a Saturday) to vent about how
much you all hate your jobs and resent millennials for trying to spice it up by using
graphic design techniques that are apparently too over your head to comprehend.
None of these resumes stood out to me as difficult to scan and if you find them

these concepts are going above my head, or, I suspect, most of the other
viewers of this page. I have nothing to resent, nor do I hate my job. What I do
have is the ability to listen to my seniors and relevant decision makers and
learn from their experience, advice, and hard-earned expertise in order to
enrich my professional growth and strengthen my skillset. Taking everything as
a personal attack on yourself or constructing strawman arguments (e.g. use
MS Office templates) is not a sign of maturity - professional or otherwise.

I worked in human services for 26 years and none of these templates would have
been of any use for an applicant or the person doing the reviewing. Resumes need
to be on white or ecru paper. The contact information needs to be loud and clear at
the top. Education needs to come right after that. Below that comes experience in
reverse chronological order. After that, identify any community groups that are
voluntary activities. THE END hopefully all on one page- no bells, no whistles Aint
nobody got time for that.

Desiging is not the same as decorating. Its not about making things pretty for the
sake for pretty.
Some of these resumes look more like menu from fancy restaurants. Remember
that design is for other people to gain benefit from, not for the creator to express
themselves. Its not art. Its meant to solve communication problems.
It a designed resume doesnt improve readability of the piece, then its failed to
serve its purpose.

RESPOND

Even for a design company, a lot of these are way overdone, and reek of the type
of over-eagerness to impress that many recent grads/interns/first-job applicants
have. Just keep it clean, simple, and professional, like #27 (minus the colors,
ideally). Save the creativity for your portfolio and sample page, and spend the time
and effort making your CV as straightforward and non-fussy as possible, without
compromising basic aesthetics, of course.
Your resume is not an art project or a Pinterest board of cutesy and twee design
decisions - its a functional tool with a very specific purpose. If you make the
recruiter spend time they dont have trying to mine the most pertinent information
they need to know in order to do their job effectively from the mountain of text and
images youve buried it under, they will hate you for it, or worse, just toss your stuff
into the bin without so much as reading your name.

As someone who has served on dozens of hiring committees, I can tell you that
most of these would be immediately tossed in the trash. Most of them look like
restaurant menus, wedding invitations or high school art projects. The best resumes
are printed on bright white paper with black ink and a simple font. Remember that
most of the time the resume will be photocopied several times and colors make the
paper look muddy and smudged. If you went to an online college like Phoenix U

These would be great if applying to a graphic design job, but for other types of
jobs, theyre too busy. 9 is good. 11s ok, though double columns make things
difficult. You want the resume to be scannable (I mean with the eye, not with a
scanner). With these, the eye has to jump all over the page and the prospective
employer has to search for what may be most applicable to the job (with most, its
experience, but with some, education is very important or your skills). You want
your resume to stand out, but the content is what should do it, not an overdone
appearance.
